Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 288

She couldn’t accept that Daniel had pushed her away, so she pointed the gun at someone else.

Daniel, however, didn’t hesitate for a second. “No.”

“Then why—?”

At that moment, the senior managers arrived at the door for the meeting. They froze, unsure if they should come in or turn back, awkwardness written all over their faces.

Daniel glanced over coolly. “What are you waiting for, a red carpet and a trumpet fanfare? If you’re planning to stand there all day, you might as well let me carry you in on a golden throne.”

The managers scrambled inside, eager to avoid more sarcasm.

Daniel added, “Anyone not involved in the meeting, out.”

Violet, humiliated and furious, covered her face and hurried out.

The managers exchanged silent glances, inwardly sighing at Mr. Campbell’s ruthlessness. He showed no mercy, not even to a delicate-looking girl like her.

One manager accidentally met Daniel’s icy, unyielding gaze. In that moment, he realized: forget about delicate girls—if the Queen of England herself walked in and annoyed Mr. Campbell, he’d probably chew her out just the same.

On her way back to the research institute, Amelia passed a bakery famous for its apple blossom pastries. She pulled over, parked her car, and joined the long line.

Spring was the best season for these pastries, and the old bakery was crowded as ever. Amelia squeezed through the throng, but just as she reached the door, a woman bumped into her. Jostled, Amelia accidentally stepped on someone entering the shop.

“Sorry…” She looked up—and found herself staring straight at Mogan.

A moment ago, she’d been all apologies and politeness, but when she saw who it was, her expression turned cold.

Mogan looked at her as if she were his sworn enemy. Amelia, not missing a beat, spoke first: “Stepped on your foot by accident. If you want to call the cops over it, I’ll cooperate fully.”

Mogan choked for a second, then scowled. “Sharp tongue, aren’t you.”

Violet’s sobs came through the phone, uncontainable. “Daniel doesn’t want me anymore… He—he only has eyes for Amelia.”

Of course it was about Amelia again. Mogan’s voice dropped, cold and resolute. “Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”

He slammed his car door shut, catching a glimpse of Amelia’s car parked up ahead.

Violet’s crying echoed in his mind, sharp and relentless, and the memory of her tear-streaked face made his heart ache. He looked up at Amelia’s car, eyes blazing with fury.

This was all Amelia’s fault. If it weren’t for her, Violet wouldn’t be this heartbroken.

Violet had always protected him when they were children. He’d sworn to look after her, to never let her feel hurt. Yet now, he’d let her suffer so much.

And the person responsible was right in front of him.

Blinded by rage, Mogan stared at Amelia’s car, slammed down the accelerator, and crashed into her—deliberately, with all his strength.
