Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 292

“Do you swear?”

“I swear I have no improper feelings for Violet.”

Horace said nothing more.

In the suffocating, dim basement, the sound of the leather strap striking flesh echoed for a long time.

At last, Horace turned away, looking down at him from above. “You shouldn’t have touched Daniel’s people.”

Mogan, pale and barely conscious, lay sprawled on the floor. “But she bullied Violet.”

Horace’s brow furrowed sharply. “And you still insist you don’t have other intentions toward Violet?”

“I only see her as someone who showed me kindness,” Mogan managed, his voice hoarse. “The same way you did, sir.”

Horace let out a heavy sigh. “Enough. Tend to your wounds, then get yourself to Silkwood. And remember—never go after Daniel’s people again. The Campbell family isn’t just Daniel; there’s also Mr. Ethan Campbell. If Mr. Ethan decides he’s had enough, not even Daniel can protect your ‘benefactor’ anymore.”

Mogan watched Horace’s retreating back, then called out suddenly, “Mr. Brown, do you hate Violet?”

Horace paused mid-step. Mogan couldn’t see his face.

Slowly, Mogan pushed himself off the ground, trembling. “The Scott family’s mess had nothing to do with her. She was just a little kid back then.”

“What should or shouldn’t be isn’t for us to decide.” With that, Horace strode away and left him in the silence.

After several busy days at work, Amelia finally found a moment to herself and reached out to her lawyer.

Her lawyer was a sharp, capable woman in her forties. They spoke for almost an hour, and when Amelia exited the law firm, she nearly collided with Sophia.

There was nowhere to hide, so Amelia braced herself and greeted her.

Sophia narrowed her eyes. “What are you doing at a law office?”

Truth was, she figured Sophia might need a drink for what was coming.

The courses arrived at a snail’s pace. Some plates looked generous, but when they arrived, there was only a single bite perched in the center. The food barely touched their stomachs before it seemed to disappear.

Growing bored with waiting, Sophia pestered her. “Stop being so mysterious. Just spit it out already—I’m dying of curiosity.”

“If you’re itching, then scratch,” Amelia said stubbornly. “I’ll tell you when we’re done eating.”

She was afraid that if she started talking too soon, she wouldn’t be able to eat at all.

Nearly an hour later, after the final dish had been cleared, Sophia dabbed her mouth and leaned in. “Alright, spill.”

Amelia was about to open her mouth when, out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a familiar figure.

Sophia followed her gaze, then frowned in confusion. “Wait—what’s Zachary doing here with your ex-husband?”
