“Go on,” Daniel said, sitting up and pulling a notebook from under the coffee table. Despite looking absolutely defeated, his expression was dead serious. “Tell me everything—I’ll write it all down.”
Finley ruffled his own hair in frustration and dropped onto the couch. “Daniel, why are you doing this to yourself?”
“Why am I doing this to myself…” Daniel mumbled as he typed the words.
“Not that part.” Finley was starting to think lovesickness ought to be classified as a major illness. He pushed Daniel’s hand away from the keyboard. “Daniel, snap out of it. If your ex still had feelings for you, she wouldn’t have had a baby with someone else. She’s moved on—she doesn’t even think about you. Why keep torturing yourself?”
Daniel slowly turned to look at him. “Am I pathetic right now?”
“The absolute worst,” Finley replied bluntly.
“Then why can’t I win her back?”
Finley was speechless for a moment before unleashing a string of colorful curses.
“Fine, fine,” Finley groaned, raking his hair into a mess. “If you and your ex are trying to drive me insane together, congratulations—you’ve succeeded.”
Daniel had no interest in his breakdown. “Help me out. I’ll personally oversee your project. If you pull this off, you’ll be able to take the next three years off.”
…
Ruby burst through the door after preschool, barely able to contain her excitement as she shared her news with Amelia.
“Mom! James invited me to his mom’s birthday party!”
“Really?” Amelia raised an eyebrow. Was preschool socializing really this intense now—kids getting invited to their classmates’ moms’ birthday parties?
“Did he only invite you?” she asked.
“No, he invited lots of kids from our class. Everyone’s going!” Ruby beamed.
Ava took Amelia through some beginner-friendly courses—an orienteering challenge, then a level-two climbing wall. Amelia found herself wanting more.
At one point, a friend invited Ava to join them for skydiving. Ava’s eyes lit up as she turned to Amelia. “You have to try this—it’s incredible! Total adrenaline rush. There’s a pro instructor, it’s perfectly safe. Come on—jumping out of that plane, you’ll feel like you’re flying. It’ll be a memory you’ll never forget. You only get about 30,000 days in a lifetime—don’t let them all be the same!”
Ava’s enthusiasm was infectious. Amelia hesitated, then grinned nervously. “…Okay, why not?”
Since it was Amelia’s first time skydiving, she got the full pre-flight training—listening, half-excited, half-terrified.
Once she’d suited up and boarded the plane, the nerves finally hit. As the engines roared and they climbed higher, her hands broke out in a cold sweat.
“Don’t worry, the instructors are pros,” Ava said breezily. She and her friends, all experienced jumpers, were perfectly at ease. “We’ll go first. Watch how we jump—the first few seconds feel like your stomach drops, but after that, you can just enjoy the view.”
Amelia glanced around anxiously. “Where’s my instructor?”
A tall man in full skydiving gear and black goggles stepped out from the front cabin. “Right here.”

How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
