Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 325

“Otherwise,” with no one else around to comfort him, Mr. Campbell could only try to console himself. “Why don’t you have a baby for me too, call it even.”

“All right.” He wanted to kiss her lips, but remembering he still had a cold, he shifted and pressed a kiss to her cheek instead. “If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes.”

Maybe she sensed the slight movement; Amelia frowned in her sleep, clearly displeased. Daniel, suddenly feeling like a kid caught sneaking cookies, scrambled back to his own bed and pretended to be asleep.

When the room quieted down, he cracked open his eyes and gazed at the woman across from him, reliving that fleeting, gentle kiss. A smile crept across his lips.

Amelia woke early. The hospital bed had been uncomfortable, and all night she’d dreamed of eyes lurking in the darkness, watching her with a chilling intensity.

She glanced at Daniel, still asleep, then slipped quietly out of the room.

Riding a cab back to Elm Estates, she passed a street corner where a black SUV tore past, racing through the morning mist. The cab driver muttered, “What’s the rush? Trying to get to the next life or something?”

Inside the black SUV, Mogan’s face was drawn and tired, but his eyes burned with urgency as he sped home.

When he finally reached the house, he pushed the door open and stopped in his tracks, startled by the scene before him.

Violet sat slumped on the floor, hair tangled, her upper body leaned against the sofa. Empty beer cans littered the carpet—a picture of utter despair.

“Violet!”

Mogan rushed to her side, gently brushing the hair from her face, his voice trembling with worry. “Don’t do this to yourself. I’m here now.”

Violet slowly opened her eyes and, seeing him, forced a wan smile. “It’s nothing… I just need a little time.”

His hands clenched and unclenched on his knees, struggling to find the words. After a long silence, he finally spoke, his voice rough. “Violet, Mr. Brown has given the order—I can’t go after Amelia anymore. If something happens and the Campbell family decides to press charges, you’d be dragged into it too.”

“I see…” Violet didn’t look surprised. “No wonder Amelia acts so untouchable these days.”

“It’s all right.” She smiled, but her eyes were red. “This was my mess to begin with. Don’t blame yourself. You haven’t had breakfast yet, have you? Let me make you something—how about some noodles?”

“Violet, it’s okay. I can do it myself.”

“No, let me.” She forced a little lightness into her voice. “You’ve cooked for me so many times. Let me pay you back for once.”

Violet fetched eggs and greens from the fridge and tried to sound casual. “If Daniel doesn’t want me anymore, I’ll just have to stick with you. Daniel, Amelia, and her daughter can play happy family—I can’t let myself fall apart, can I?”

At the mention of “Amelia’s daughter,” something flickered in Mogan’s eyes.
