Amelia: ?
Is this guy out of his mind?
Honestly, Amelia had no idea she had a crescent-shaped birthmark on her lower back—who just stands around with a mirror, checking out their own back, anyway?
She only found out after she got together with Daniel. On those tangled nights, he liked to turn her over, kissing her skin inch by inch. When his lips found her lower back, she could never help but shiver.
Daniel would just grin wickedly and tease her for being so sensitive.
She’d kick him in annoyance—what a dumb question. Who *wouldn’t* be sensitive near their tailbone?
After that, he made a habit of kissing her right there, clearly enjoying the way she trembled. Once, in a heated moment, he murmured that her “little crescent moon” was beautiful.
That’s when she realized she had a crescent birthmark on her lower back.
So now, for Morgan—who had nothing to do with her except for some personal grudge—to suddenly show up out of the blue and ask such an intimate question? Amelia looked at him like he was not only crazy, but also a total creep.
Morgan didn’t care how she looked at him; he just wanted an answer. “Do you have a birthmark there? I saw it last time.”
Before Amelia could answer, Cedric appeared out of nowhere, forcefully stepping between them to shield her. “Mr. White, show some respect.”
Amelia shrugged Cedric off. “Did you drive here? He looks completely out of it—hurry up and get him to a hospital.”
Morgan was still obsessing over his answer, about to say something more, when his phone rang. It was Violet calling.
The chaos in his mind vanished the second he heard Violet’s voice.
Had he lost his mind? How could he ever have thought Amelia was “her”?
She could never be “her.”
Violet was the true heiress of the Scott family—the one who’d pulled him back from the brink of death. Amelia was nothing but Violet’s stand-in.
Suddenly, Morgan understood what Violet meant when she’d once said, “Feelings are strange things. Sometimes the freshness of a substitute can overshadow the original.”
Daniel was the same way, enchanted by the novelty of a stand-in, growing colder toward Violet by the day. Morgan cursed Daniel in his heart, wondering why Violet still cared for a fickle man like that.
She put the phone on speaker. Cedric, red-faced, stammered, “Daniel, it was Morgan. He came looking for Mrs. Scott—I had no choice but to show myself.”
There was a brief silence, followed by the sound of a chair scraping back. Daniel’s voice was suddenly colder. “Where are you?”
Amelia replied, “Where we are doesn’t matter. Just have Cedric protect Ruby from now on. I’m going home for dinner.”
“Cedric only takes orders from me,” Daniel countered, clearly enjoying the upper hand. “But fine—if you have dinner with me tonight, I’ll agree to your terms.”
Amelia, determined to help Ruby, had booked a table at a Michelin three-star restaurant, sparing no expense. To her surprise, Daniel was already there when she arrived.
“You fly over here or something?”
For once, Daniel didn’t quip back. He flipped through the menu absentmindedly, asking, “What did Morgan want with you?”
Amelia scoffed. “Isn’t he Violet’s lovesick puppy? What else could he want?” She pointed to the menu for the waiter. “I’ll have the white truffle ice cream.”
“Hold on,” Daniel glanced at her from beneath his lashes, “When’s your period? If it’s coming up, don’t eat cold stuff or you’ll end up with stomach cramps again.”

How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
