**Chapter 125: In The Eyes**
**Hondo’s p.o.v.**
Another dawn breaks, and once again, I find myself waking up with Taipo’s head resting comfortably on my chest. The warmth radiating from him feels like home, and I can hardly contain my excitement at the thought of introducing him to Alayah. He has been peppering me with questions about her—curious about how she manages the Blood Stone Pack and eager to hear stories of our adventures over the past year. Each tale I share seems to spark a light in his eyes, and I can’t help but feel a swell of pride.
It’s hard to believe that I’ve spent not just one night, but three, in this blissful state. Each night has been a revelation, filled with a depth of sleep I can scarcely remember experiencing before. The bond between us, our Mate-bond, is palpable. It’s a connection that transcends words, and I finally grasp the essence of what my father has been trying to convey all these years. This is what it means to be truly connected to someone.
Yesterday, however, was a stark contrast to this newfound joy. Anger and outrage washed over me as I recalled the events at the Hyll cottage. The Omega we encountered there was seized by Orosz on her way to the Pack-house. He unleashed a brutal assault on her for defying Haydu’s orders. Thankfully, Nako found her, and in doing so, likely startled Orosz enough to allow the Omega to escape with her life.
As we made our way to the Parks cottage, we passed by the Hyll cottage once more. Another Omega was there, and I could see the bruises forming on her skin as Haydu delivered a vicious warning. The thought of Orosz spiraling into another fit of rage made me uneasy, so I opted to jot down notes for Alayah regarding this family’s troubling dynamics.
The screams reached our ears long before the cottage came into view, and Taipo and I exchanged knowing glances. We both understood the horror that was unfolding within those walls. It was a sound that had haunted us recently, and I struggled to keep Vallin’s anger at bay. For a brief moment, we held each other tightly, finding solace in our shared pain. Then, abruptly, the screams ceased, replaced by soft, pitiful whimpers.
“You are not worthy of being my Mate,” a male voice sneered. “The only reason I tolerate your presence is for my Wolf. If it weren’t for him, I would have severed this connection long ago.” A second male voice echoed the sentiment, chilling me to the bone.
Taipo leaned closer, whispering that the first voice belonged to Jalal, Dusya’s brother, while the second belonged to Dace, her father. “They don’t deserve you,” Taipo murmured, his voice filled with conviction. “They will never be worthy of you.” I could almost hear Dusya’s words as she walked away, her spirit unbroken.
We waited in silence until both men exited the cottage, allowing us to emerge from our hiding place. We needed to get Nako out of there before anyone would believe us. Right now, there were three females inside, each one nursing wounds inflicted by those who should have been their protectors, not their tormentors.
I settled beside Taipo just as my phone buzzed to life, vibrating gently against my thigh. I turned the screen towards him, revealing that Alayah was en route with a contingent of Elite Warriors, ready to secure the Pack within its borders.
“I can’t wait to hear what kind of excuses they come up with,” Taipo muttered, a hint of sarcasm lacing his words. “I doubt there’s a justification they can conjure that would satisfy our Alpha.”
Nako had been busy gathering her belongings, already dropping a few bags in the cottage. She would be joining us at Blood Stone Pack, and I sensed that if Alayah offered others the chance to transfer, at least three more would eagerly follow.
I had been racking my brain, trying to understand how the leadership of this Pack remained oblivious to the heinous acts committed by their members. No matter how Taipo and I examined the situation, we couldn’t find a plausible explanation.
From my observations, the families we had scrutinized seemed to wield no real power within the Pack.
I hoped fervently that Alayah would uncover how these families had instilled such fear among the other Pack members and why their leaders had turned a blind eye to the many injured and weakened souls residing within their ranks.
