**Chapter 131: Asshole**
**Alayah’s P.O.V.**
Over the course of the last two weeks, we have delved deeply into the troubling cases of rejection that have surfaced among the Shifters. It has become abundantly clear that every Shifter deserves to know the truth of what has transpired and the repercussions that follow.
Noah, ever the meticulous planner, insisted on compiling a comprehensive report on the trial to distribute to every Pack. However, Nero quickly interjected, reminding us that most members of our community have ignored the communications from the Elders for decades. The back-and-forth discussions were frustrating, as we struggled to devise a method to inform as many Shifters as possible without inviting them all to witness the trial firsthand.
After much deliberation, Uncle Josh proposed a solution that we could actually implement. With renewed energy, we began preparing the meeting room for our first trial, transforming it into a space that would hopefully foster accountability and understanding.
Each day, we’ve scheduled a case, as I believe it’s crucial for us to take the time we need to process everything, both for ourselves and for our Lycans. I have my doubts about whether we can tackle a case in a single session, regardless of whose side it is. I want to ensure we have ample time to absorb all the information presented.
Our inaugural trial revolves around Ron and Diya. His Mate has already embarrassed herself and even spent a night in the dungeons, a spectacle that has left me perplexed. What on earth possessed her to bring their child along? Is she truly planning on having him witness the proceedings? Does she want him to hear the sordid details of what his parents inflicted upon an innocent female?
I can hardly contain my anticipation to hear her justification for the torment she put Diya through, and I am equally curious about what Alpha Ron could possibly have been thinking. I know this abhorrent chapter must close today.
Stepping out of our walk-in closet, I adjust my black pencil skirt, which features a daring split on my left leg, and smooth down my fitted white shirt with short sleeves. My classic black stilettos, with their four-inch heels, click against the floor as I stride purposefully. My Mates emit soft growls of approval mixed with frustration at my outfit; they have a complex relationship with these looks, expressing both admiration and possessiveness.
“Let’s just get this over with,” I declare, my voice firm. “We have three days ahead of us filled with Shifters who believe they have a valid reason to inflict betrayal upon others. It’s high time we put an end to this nonsense.” With that, I step out of our bedroom and make my way to the living room where our Pups are waiting.
“Mama, look pretty!” Cassandra exclaims the moment I enter the room. I scoop her up under her arms, lifting her effortlessly into the air. She wraps her small arms around my neck, and I bury my face in her soft hair, inhaling her sweet scent. For a brief moment, Topaz and I relish this connection, allowing ourselves to forget the weight of the day ahead.
As I scan the meeting room, I take note of every Shifter present—some here for their own trial, others for the sake of witnessing another’s. At the front, I spot Diya and Ron, their presence heavy with tension. Our Elite Warriors are scattered throughout the room, dressed in casual attire that conceals their true identities.
“Alpha Ron,” I begin, my tone steady yet probing, “fifteen years ago, you forged a connection with Diya. She is your Gamma’s younger sister, and you allowed the Mate-bond to form. Yet, you chose another as your Mate. Why did you betray her in this way?”
I observe him glance at his chosen Mate, but I had ordered everyone to refrain from using their mind-link, a decision I’m grateful Anton reminded me of. This way, we can read their body language, not that Nathan or I need much help deciphering the truth.
“She is not a Gamma; she doesn’t even have a Wolf. My Pack needed a strong Luna, one with a Wolf,” Alpha Ron asserts, his conviction palpable.
