Deanna’s POV:

“Jillian is such a snake! She set you up on purpose. I swear, I just want to push her for real!”

Violet smacked her spoon against the plate, the sharp sound turning heads in the café.

1 gave an apologetic smile to the people around us and quickly calmed her down. “Luis already stood up for me. Here, try this cake–it’s really good.”

On my birthday, Violet had been stuck at an event and couldn’t make it. She decided to celebrate with me today instead.

She opened her mouth and took a bite of cake. Only then did her frown ease a little.

“See? Having an alpha to protect you makes everything different. Look at you now–you’re glowing.”

My face turned bright red. I quickly grabbed my latte and took a quick sip.

“See? I didn’t even say anything yet, and you’re already blushing. Last night must’ve been pretty wild, huh?”

Her words made my mind flash back to last night with Luis.

The way he had me tangled up with him, not letting go until almost dawn.

He had been relentless, trying all sorts of postures, leaving me so sore the next morning I could hardly straighten my back.

The way he pushed me, I felt like my body was flexible enough to join a ballet troupe.

My cheeks burned hotter. I quickly shoved a big spoonful of cake into her mouth. “Stop it!”

Violet only laughed harder. Then, like a thought struck her, she tilted her head,

“But hey, don’t you think it’s strange? There were so many people there last night. With Mr. Eaton’s status, how come there isn’t a single story online today?”

Her words made me pause.

She was right. There wasn’t a trace of it on the internet. It felt like someone had buried it on

purpose.

My hand froze around the fork. A heavy sadness washed over me.

All because that jerk held a press conference first. No matter how much Violet tried to explain, nobody believed her anymore.

Overnight, Violet’s career crashed. She had to pay for lost endorsement deals and damages, and the shows she was supposed to star in were put on hold.

Even Pansy Jordan, her manager who had stayed by her side for years, left at the worst

moment.

Violet was back to square one.

She took any gig she could.

When her phone rang, the voice on the other end was loud and sharp through the receiver.

“You think you’re still a big star? If someone asks you to show up, you should consider yourself lucky. Give it some time–they wouldn’t even offer you more than 5,000 dollars.

“Are you coming or not? If you don’t, I’ll get someone else!”

Violet’s face darkened. She ground her teeth and said, “Fine. Fine. Set it up.”

After she hung up, she emptied the bubble tea on the table in one gulp like she was letting off

steam.

I watched her from the side and started to worry about her.
