Deanna’s POV:
I heard the door shut.
I wrapped my arms around my knees and sat there in a daze.
Days passed without a single call or text from Luis.

I locked myself at home, pulled out my old art supplies, and sketched interior designs one after another.
The phone in the living room rang.
I picked it up.
“Bae, the Muses grand opening is tonight. I’m the spokesperson, and I saw your name on the guest list. Are you coming?”
Violet’s voice was full of excitement.
Ever since that recording came out, everything had flipped. She went from a sinner to a victim. The public sided with her.
Violet popularity soared even higher than before.
The brands that once demanded compensation and the shows that had dropped her were now crawling back, begging for her return.

“Nope, nothing’s wrong. Don’t think too much.”
“Last time I asked about that recording, you never told me how you got it. Deanna, don’t keep me worried.”
Afraid I’d slip up if I kept talking, I rushed out, “Alright, superstar. I’ll go. I’ll come see just how stunning their spokesperson looks tonight.”

“If that’s why you’re here, you can leave.”
I started to close the door, not wanting another word with her.
Kathryn grabbed my arm, her voice urgent. “I came today to ask you to forgive me.”
A bitter laugh slipped from my lips. I turned and stared straight at her.
“Forgive you? How am I supposed to do that?
“Forgive you for only remembering Jillian as your daughter when I come home? Forgive you for always being biased against me? For never once treating me like your child?”
Kathryn’s face turned stiff with embarrassment.
“Please, give me a chance to make it right. Let’s put the past behind us and start fresh as mother and daughter.”
“Forget?” I let out a cold laugh.
“When I needed you most, you weren’t there. Now? I don’t need you anymore.”
Her hand suddenly tightened on my arm. “Deanna, I can make mistakes too. If you had grown
