Chapter 118 I Quit
Deanna’s POV:
The moment I stepped into the office building, I felt countless eyes on me.
After being gone so long, it was no surprise that everyone was curious, probably guessing what had really happened.
Lignored their stares and walked straight to my office.
The desk was piled high with documents.
I sank into my chair with a heavy sigh, the weight pressing down on me. For the first time, I felt really exhausted.
It wasn’t long before I stood again and made my way to Philip’s office.
I knocked.
When I heard a voice ask me to come in, I pushed the door open.
Inside, Desmond sat in a chair beside the large marble desk.
A bandage covered his forehead, its edges stained with faint traces of blood.
He caught me looking, glared hard, and quickly turned his head away.
Philip, however, greeted me with a smile. “Deanna, you should have rested a little longer. Why did you come back to work so soon?”
“Dad, you told me that the two of us would compete fairly for the vice president position. Well, time’s up,” Desmond suddenly said, his voice rising.
I didn’t answer but dropped lazily onto the sofa.
Philip tapped his fingers lightly on the desk. “Since Deanna has been taking some time off, it’s only fair to extend the test for another quarter.”
“That’s ridiculous! How could you do that?” Desmond shot up from his chair.
“She took some time off, so what? I came to work with a head injury! She’s the one being dramatic. My numbers are higher than hers, and that position belongs to me.”
He jabbed a finger toward his father. “Dad, don’t forget–I’m your son. You can’t let your fear of Mr. Eaton cloud your judgment!”
“What did you just say, rascal? You’d better watch your mouth!” Philip roared, slamming his hand against the desk.
I smirked coldly on the sofa.
Philip hadn’t suddenly grown a conscience.
He only saw an opportunity. My boyfriend being the Alpha of the Mooncrown Pack made me valuable in his eyes, nothing more.
Family never came first for Philip. Profits always outweighed blood.

Desmond wasn’t done. He snapped back, still seething. “You’re an Alpha, Dad. You can’t go back on your word–people will laugh at you if this gets out.”
He shot me a glance and went on. “And let’s be honest, she’s only acting like she doesn’t care about the role because she’s clinging to that Alpha. She thinks she’s too good for this job now!”
I looked at Desmond, whose face was red with anger.
That was when I remembered the document in my bag, the one with 30% of the company’s shares.
If I combined that with the shares Philip had already given me, I would become the largest shareholder.
Neither Desmond nor Philip could stop me.
But it also meant I’d be tied to Ruth in some way.
The thought made my palms sweat, and my mind was a mess.
After a long pause, I lifted my chin and said, “I came here today to tell you I’m resigning. I’ll hand over my work and leave at the end of the month.”
Philip’s smile vanished.
“Deanna, you’re part of the Mistbane. Our mall belongs to you too. If you leave, the gossip outside will only get worse. I can’t allow
that!”
“This isn’t a discussion–it’s a notice,” I replied calmly. “Whether you agree or not has nothing to do with me anymore.”
When you love something, you fight for it.
But once the love was gone, staying in the company was nothing more than holding onto a job that no longer fit.
I stood up, and a strange lightness came over me.
Philip shouted angrily at me from behind. “Deanna! You won’t even listen to your father anymore, huh?”
I didn’t turn back but walked out the door with a light step.
Back in my office, I began wrapping up projects.
1 looked at the files stacked on my desk. Every project, every sheet of paper was something I had stayed up late through the night
to finish.
My hand brushed across the pages, and I couldn’t help but feel reluctant to let go. Four years of my life had been poured into this.
I had climbed all the way from an entry–level employee to the director of the group.
The road had been hard, full of long nights and sacrifices.
Back then, I worked like crazy, chasing after Philip and Kathryn’s approval.
In the end, it was nothing more than my one–sided delusion.
Now it was finally over.
