Chapter 129: Leaving the Hospital

Deanna’s Perspective:

After an entire week, the moment I had been waiting for finally arrived—I was given the green light to leave the hospital. The sterile white walls and constant hum of machines had become all too familiar, but now, freedom was within reach.

The doctor reviewed my medical chart with evident surprise at the speed of my recovery. “Your leg is healing remarkably well,” he remarked. “You’re able to walk normally now, but remember to take it slow—no running or strenuous activity just yet.”

Sunlight poured in through the large window, casting a warm glow over the open suitcase resting on my bed. Stacey was carefully folding and packing my belongings, her movements gentle and deliberate.

Just then, the door opened, and my parents stepped inside.

Kathryn approached me with a hopeful smile. “Deanna, why don’t you come home with us? Your room is all set up. The house staff will look after you.”

I instinctively took a small step backward. “No, thank you. I’ll be going back to my own place.”

Over the past two weeks, Kathryn had visited nearly every day. I had even driven her to and from the hospital a few times. The meals Stacey brought were mostly prepared by Kathryn herself. They weren’t exactly gourmet, but I never complained.

Kathryn pressed on, her voice laced with concern. “That won’t do. You just got out of the hospital, and I don’t feel comfortable with you living alone. If you don’t want to come home with us, then maybe I could stay at your place for a while. I’d take care of you there.”

A sharp pulse throbbed in my temple as I braced myself to decline once more. At that moment, the sharp click of heels echoed down the hallway.

Violet appeared, pushing the door open with a confident stride.

“She can stay with me,” Violet declared firmly. “I have a maid at my house, and Deanna already has one too. It’s the best option.”

Kathryn frowned, skepticism clear on her face. “You must be Violet. I know you and Deanna are close, but you’re an actress—always traveling. How can you possibly take care of her?”

I wanted to tell Kathryn I didn’t need anyone’s care, that I was capable on my own. But before I could speak, another knock sounded at the door.

I looked up, and my heart skipped a beat.

Luis was leaning casually against the doorway, his tall, broad-shouldered frame commanding attention. Nurses and patients passing by couldn’t help but glance his way.

Philip’s face brightened at the sight of him. “Mr. Eaton, what a surprise.”

Luis didn’t respond. Instead, he walked straight over to me.

Before I could even react, his warm hand slid around my waist, pulling me close.

“Do I have to report to you every time I go somewhere?” His voice was smooth, his eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that made my breath catch.

Philip forced a nervous smile, clearly unsure how to respond.

Luis tilted his head down slightly, still holding me firmly. “Let’s go.”

In that instant, Kathryn, Philip, and Violet all turned their gazes toward me simultaneously.

Not wanting them to assume Luis and I were living together, I quickly stepped aside. “I’ll stay with Violet,” I said.
