Chapter 128: Peggie’s Fall

Deanna’s Perspective:

The moment Luis stepped out the door, I hastily pulled down my pants and settled onto the toilet seat. Relief washed over me as soon as I finished, my entire body loosening with the release. I flushed, then balanced on one leg as I bent down to pull my pants back up.

Suddenly, the bathroom door swung open from the outside, and I froze in place. My hands hovered awkwardly in midair, and before I could react, my pants slipped down to my ankles once more. Panic surged through me, but at least I had flushed already—thank God for that small mercy.

Luis entered the room, his demeanor calm and composed. His eyes briefly scanned my legs before he casually bent down and grasped my waistband, slowly tugging my pants back up. The warmth of his fingers brushing against my skin sent unexpected shivers trailing down my legs.

A sly smirk curved his lips. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m not sure I can handle the temptation. But… are you really strong enough for that right now?”

I shot him a flustered glare. “You perv.” Seriously—he barges in uninvited, then acts like I’m the one seducing him?

Luis chuckled heartily before scooping me up effortlessly and seating me on the sink counter. The faucet’s water gushed loudly as he wrapped his arms around me. He pumped some soap onto his hands and began helping me wash mine, but I couldn’t focus on the task. All I could see was that smug expression from moments ago when he helped me with my pants. I wanted to splash water in his face, but daring to challenge this alpha felt like a losing battle.

Finally back in bed, I yanked the blanket over myself, hiding head and all.

“Deanna, why are you hiding? Can’t even look me in the eye now?” Luis’s teasing voice floated from above.

I didn’t need to see his face to know he was deliberately provoking me—payback for not telling him immediately that I was hurt. Such a petty alpha!

Muffled beneath the blanket, I muttered, “Don’t you know patients need rest? You’re keeping me awake.”

Luis tsked in mock disapproval. “Funny. I’ve never seen a patient this full of energy.”

I was left speechless. Of course I was energetic—he was the one driving me crazy!

Before I could respond, he yanked the blanket away. Remembering the awkward bathroom incident, I shut my eyes tightly and whispered, “I don’t want to see you right now.”

Luis pinched my cheek gently, a smile tugging at his lips. “Well, that’s a problem,” he said softly. “Because I’m not done looking at you.”

Peggie’s Perspective:

Before entering the VIP room, I took a moment to check my reflection in the glass wall. My floral dress was perfect, the knit cardigan added just the right touch of class, and my makeup was flawless. The chicken soup I’d spent three hours preparing was still warm in the thermos. Everything was exactly as it should be.

Content, I opened the door with a sweet smile, only to find the room empty—no sign of Jake. Just as I turned to search for him, a nurse wheeled Jake in, his face pale and expression distant.

“Jake, where have you been? The poison is still in your system; you should be resting,” I said gently.

He didn’t respond. Instead, he fixed me with a cold, sharp stare, as if I were a stranger. The intensity of his gaze made my skin crawl.

“J-Jake, is something wrong? Do I have something on my face?” I asked nervously.

Jake didn’t answer. He motioned for the nurse to leave the room. After a moment, he turned to me, his voice calm but cutting like a blade. “I need to ask you something.”
