hapter 127 The Embarrassing Rescue
Deanna’s POV:
In the end, the nurse finally managed to insert the IV needle. Though her hands were trembling under Luis’s sharp gaze.
I leaned halfway against the bed, watching the drip for what felt like two hours.
Then I looked at the man lounging lazily on the couch. He had his head down, focused on work on his phone.
“I have a maid,” I muttered. “If you’re busy, you can-”
Luis looked up, his cold eyes locking onto mine. “You really can’t stand to see me, can you?”
My face froze. I swallowed the rest of my words.
Not wanting to talk anymore, I turned my head away and started to chat with Violet.
As soon as Violet found out what happened, she wanted to fly back from overseas right away.
I stopped her.
My injury wasn’t that bad; I just injured my right leg.
I couldn’t walk yet, but I’d probably be discharged in a week.
Violet asked, “Did you tell Jake that Peggie was behind the kidnapping? What did he say? Did he believe you?”
I typed back, “I don’t know.”
Violet wrote, “Guess she hadn’t learned her lesson last time. Just wait until I’m back–I’ll give that tramp the beating she deserves!”
I stared at the screen for a while. My hand paused in mid–air. I didn’t tell her about Peggie sleeping with Jake.
Saying it out loud would make me look like I cared too much.
Even when I first heard it, I felt sick to my stomach.
Violet went on. “So, did your alpha find out you fell off a cliff and Jake jumped to save you? Was he jealous? Furious? Come on, you were saved by your ex. If this were a soap opera, Luis would’ve already drowned in jealousy.”
Jealous? No.
Furious? Oh, definitely.
The kind of furious that made me think he wanted to eat me alive.
I couldn’t help but glance toward the balcony.
This was a VIP hospital room–with a private bathroom, a couch, and a balcony.
Luis stood outside, one hand holding his black phone to his ear, the other resting on the railing.

His voice on the call was icy, like the person on the other end had done something to wrong him.
I couldn’t imagine what it felt like to be the one talking to him right now.

Even from behind, I could sense that detached, powerful aura he always carried. He stood there like a man who ruled everything around him.
I was about to bring up the breakup.
But when I saw how cold and serious he looked, I wisely kept my mouth shut.
The IV still wasn’t done, but I suddenly had to pee.
I glanced at the man still on his phone.
He looked completely at home here, like the hospital room was his personal office. One call after another, no break in between.
I hesitated, wondering if I should ask him for help, but then decided against it.
Instead, I quietly grabbed my phone and texted Stacey.
She replied almost right away. “Ms. Deanna, Luna just made a healthy meal. I’m on my way back. If you really need to go, press the call button to ask the nurse to help.
Nurse?
Just thinking about the nurse’s teasing look earlier made me want to disappear from the Lycanland.
There was no way I could call them.
But now my legs were pressed tightly together, and I was struggling to hold it back.
My eyes darted between the bathroom and the bed. I gritted my teeth. Fine. I’d do it myself.
I carefully shifted my body to the edge of the bed, letting one foot touch the floor, and stood up wobbly.
Using one hand to support myself on the bedside table, I lifted my good leg and reached up to take down the IV bag.
Just as I was about to grab it, a strong hand reached over my head and took it down easily.
I looked up and met Luis’s deep, stormy eyes.
We were so close that I could see my reflection in them.
My heart skipped a beat. I quickly turned my head away.
“I can do it myself,” I said stubbornly, trying to take the IV from him so I could hop to the bathroom on one leg.
He let out a short laugh.
“You sure have a temper. Tell me, do you use it all up on me?”
“I do not!” My face was already red from holding it in.
