Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 143

**The Heart I Buried for You by Serene Lockwood**

**Deanna’s POV:**

Luis raised his gaze to meet mine, his golden eyes gleaming with an intensity that felt predatory, as if he were a hunter assessing his next target. The scent of cedarwood mixed with an undercurrent of fury enveloped me, so potent it was as if it could consume me entirely.

His voice, though steady, carried a chilling edge. “I had a gut feeling my girl was up to something this morning. I flew back just to confirm, and it seems my omega is quite adept at playing games.”

I rubbed my forehead, feeling the weight of this conversation pressing down on me like a heavy fog. “Luis, can you please just talk like a normal person for once?”

A mocking laugh escaped him, sharp and cutting. “Why should I? Is it because I’m not as gentle as he is with my words?”

I held his gaze, determined to keep my tone even despite the turmoil inside me. “Even if I wanted to deny it, Jake was my boyfriend once,” I admitted quietly, the truth spilling out like a reluctant confession. “I can’t change the past, even if it upsets you.”

“Deanna, that’s your explanation?” he questioned, disbelief lacing his words.

His eyes fell, and I could see the tension in his jaw as he spoke through clenched teeth.

I turned away, my gaze drifting to the window, the world outside a blur. “If you don’t trust me, then no matter how I explain, you won’t hear me anyway,” I said stubbornly, my heart racing with frustration.

In an instant, Luis seized the back of my head, forcing me to look at him. His amber eyes were frigid, and the scent that surrounded us felt like a heavy shroud, suffocating and inescapable. “How do you know I won’t listen?” he asked, his voice a low murmur. “Or is it that you don’t want to explain because you still have feelings for him?”

I struggled against him, but the confines of the back seat felt like a trap. His scent was everywhere, thick and powerful, leaving me with no room to breathe, let alone escape.

“Can you stop being so childish?” I snapped, raising my voice in exasperation.

Luis chuckled coldly, the sound sending a shiver down my spine. “Childish? If you despise being around me so much, then why did you even get in the car?”

The futility of our argument weighed heavily on me. We were both too frustrated, too locked in our own emotions for anything I said to make sense to him right now. Perhaps it would be best if we distanced ourselves for a moment.

I shoved him away and reached for the door handle, ready to step out and escape this suffocating atmosphere.

But his deep, commanding voice stopped me in my tracks, filled with that unmistakable Alpha dominance. “Deanna, go ahead. Try getting out of the car.”

Unbelievable. Was this man capable of being any more controlling?

He ridiculed me without pause, and now he was preventing me from leaving.

My hand slowly fell away from the handle, and I sighed, resigning myself to the moment. I sank back into my seat, lowering my head in defeat. My eyes landed on the Moonstone bracelet adorning my wrist, its soft glow a stark contrast to the tension between us.

For a fleeting moment, I lost myself in its beauty, turning one of the stones between my fingers as a sense of calm washed over me. “Luis, remember when you were away for work? I told you on the phone that we’d talk when you came back.”
