**Chapter 154: A Visit to the Hospital**
*Deanna’s POV:*
As I stepped out of the Elysian Club, the cool evening air wrapped around me like a comforting blanket, but it did little to ease the heat that lingered on my cheeks.
“Maggie!” I heard a familiar voice call out, and I turned to see her sprinting towards me, her excitement palpable. The scent of her human essence filled the air, warm and inviting.
“I’ve been searching high and low for you! Where did you disappear to?” she exclaimed, her brows furrowing in concern.
“I just needed to use the restroom,” I replied, trying to sound casual.
Maggie’s eyes narrowed suspiciously, and I could feel her scrutinizing me. “I went there too, but I didn’t see you. Wait a minute, why is your face so flushed?”
I glanced around, feeling a bit exposed under her gaze. “It’s just hot in here. Come on, let’s get going,” I urged, eager to change the subject.
Once we settled into the car, I pulled up the GPS, my fingers tapping the screen with purpose. “Let’s swing by the hospital to check on Zelena’s dad.”
The drive was filled with a mix of anticipation and tension, the city lights flickering past us like fleeting thoughts.
“Deanna,” Maggie broke the silence, her tone suddenly serious.
“Yeah?” I replied, keeping my eyes on the road, though my heart raced a little.
“You won’t believe what I just found out! That guy—he’s the Alpha of the Mooncrown Pack!”
Her voice dripped with awe, and I could sense her excitement. “The Mooncrown Pack is like, the most prestigious pureblood family in all of Sudland! They’re worth billions!”
I turned the steering wheel, my expression remaining stoic, though inside I felt a mixture of pride and apprehension.
Maggie glanced at me, her curiosity piqued. “So, what’s your connection to him?”
“Just acquaintances,” I replied flatly, my focus unwavering on the road ahead.
“Oh. Okay,” she said, picking up on my tone and letting the conversation drop. The only sound filling the car was the gentle hum of the GPS guiding us forward.
Before long, we arrived at the hospital, its sterile exterior looming before us. With a bag of fresh fruit and vitamins in hand, we made our way toward the hospital room. Just as Maggie reached for the doorknob, we overheard Alice Bond—Zelena’s mother—speaking with a tone heavy with worry.
“Our family just can’t catch a break. Now we can’t even afford your father’s medical bills for such a minor surgery,” Alice lamented, her voice laced with frustration.
