Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 153

**Chapter 153: I Replied With Silence**

**Deanna’s POV:**

The heat radiating from my cheeks was almost unbearable as I retreated to the restroom, seeking refuge from the overwhelming embarrassment that had washed over me.

Standing in front of the sink, I splashed cold water onto my face, hoping to quell the flush that betrayed my inner turmoil. Was it fear or humiliation that made my skin burn like this? I couldn’t quite tell, but the sensation was all-consuming.

After a few deep breaths, I steadied myself and typed a quick message to Maggie: “Let’s go.”

With a renewed sense of urgency, I exited the restroom, only to find Luis casually leaning against the wall in the hallway.

His tall frame was relaxed, one leg stretched out while the other was propped against the wall. The light caught his profile just right, accentuating the sharp angles of his jaw. He held a cigarette with an air of nonchalance, the smoke curling around him like a lazy serpent.

The scent of cedarwood hung in the air, subtle yet distinct, marking the space around him as his territory. Even the lower-ranking Omegas who passed by seemed to instinctively steer clear, their footsteps quiet as they dared not disturb his presence.

I lowered my gaze, attempting to slip past him unnoticed, but his piercing eyes caught me in their grip. He scrutinized me from head to toe with a slow, deliberate gaze that made my heart race.

Unable to find the strength to move, I managed to whisper, “I appreciate the help back there.”

If it hadn’t been for him catching me just in time, I would have collided with that glass table, and my face would have surely been a mess.

I couldn’t shake the feeling that one of those envious women might have tripped me on purpose.

“Silly,” Luis drawled, his voice dripping with a languid confidence. “You want the Skyline Construction project?”

I cast my eyes downward, feeling the weight of his question. “I’ll earn it myself.”

Deep down, I knew that securing the project through him would be the simplest route.

But I also understood that Luis was the most dangerous player in this game, a truth that sent shivers down my spine.

As I turned to walk away, a thought struck me, and I pivoted back to face him.

“Why didn’t you reply to my message?”

I had inquired about the deadline last time, but his silence had been deafening.

Luis took a long drag from his cigarette, exhaling slowly. “I did.”

Did he?

I racked my brain, but I couldn’t recall seeing anything from him.

Then, with an infuriatingly relaxed tone, he added, “I replied with silence.”

A laugh threatened to escape me, a mix of disbelief and frustration. I replied patiently, “Mr. Eaton, are you trying to go back on your word?”
