**Chapter 198: Mom**
Desmond’s head, which had only just begun to feel normal again, suddenly erupted in a cacophony of pain. “Majority shareholder? That can’t be true!” he shouted, his voice echoing with disbelief and anger.
Deanna stood across from him, her demeanor icy and composed. “Desmond, I’m merely reflecting back what you told me that fateful day. It’s you who’s being ousted from the Mistbane Group,” she replied, her tone devoid of any warmth.
Yvonne, clutching Philip’s arm for support, felt a wave of dread wash over her. Her hands trembled, the fear palpable in her grip.
For over two decades, she had endured the sting of humiliation, all the while dreaming of the day she would finally claim her rightful place as the Luna of the Mistbane Pack. Her son had finally been recognized, and for a fleeting moment, everything seemed to fall into place—until this very night shattered that illusion.
The shock overwhelmed her senses. Her vision blurred, and before she could process the chaos around her, her body succumbed to darkness, and she fainted.
As Yvonne’s body slumped, Philip barely managed to catch her, his own stability wavering as he struggled to keep her from crashing to the floor.
“Mom! Mom!” Desmond cried out, his heart racing as he hurried to her side, panic coursing through him.
Deanna let out a sharp, bitter laugh, her eyes glinting with disdain. “Pathetic,” she scoffed.
With a flick of her wrist, she summoned several imposing werewolf guards into the room. “Remove them from my sight,” she commanded, her voice leaving no room for argument.
Philip gasped, the authority he once wielded as Alpha slipping away like sand through his fingers. His hands shook with rage as he pointed an accusatory finger at Deanna. “You ungrateful wretch! I should have never let you back into my life! How dare you strip me of my power!”
Desmond thrashed against the guards, his voice rising in desperation. “Let me go! I’m the heir of the Mistbane Pack! Don’t you dare lay a finger on me! Deanna, mark my words, I will make you pay for this betrayal!”
Yet the guards were unwavering, bound by duty to follow the orders of the highest authority. Two of them seized each of the three, forcing Philip, Yvonne, and Desmond out of the building with a ruthless efficiency.
Once they were gone, Deanna wasted no time. She called an emergency board meeting, her voice steady as she informed those present that the Alpha had stepped down from the board, and she would be taking over the management of Mistbane Group on a temporary basis.
In the days that followed, she immersed herself in the demands of the company, navigating the complexities of business while also caring for her mother, Kathryn, who was slowly on the mend.
As Kathryn learned of Philip’s removal from the Mistbane Group, a sense of calm began to wash over her turbulent emotions.
She sat quietly on the bed, her gaze fixed on Deanna, who was meticulously peeling an apple beside her. The rhythm of the blade against the fruit was soothing, yet Kathryn felt a question bubbling to the surface.
