Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 220

**TITLE: The Heart I Buried for You by Serene Lockwood**
**Chapter 220: I Will Think It Through**

In the dim light of the charity gala, Luis barely managed to lift his eyelids, the brilliance of the diamond necklace glinting in a way that obscured any glimpse of emotion in his eyes. The room buzzed with chatter and laughter, but for him, there was only a profound silence, punctuated by the soft tapping of his fingertips against the edge of the table—a rhythmic sound that seemed to echo his internal turmoil.

Clarissa felt her heart race, the anticipation swirling within her like a tempest. She couldn’t help but feel her lips curve upward, a smile breaking free as hope ignited within her. But in the blink of an eye, everything shifted. With an abrupt motion, Luis tossed the diamond necklace back into the black velvet box with a sharp, crisp “click,” an act devoid of tenderness. In that moment, the warmth of his presence turned frigid, like a winter chill sweeping through the air.

“Put it away,” he commanded, his tone flat and devoid of any warmth.

With that simple phrase, Luis rose from his seat, exuding an air of nonchalance that belied the tension hanging in the atmosphere. He cast a glance at Aleg, the host of the gala, who sat at the table, his voice dripping with indifference as he continued, “Aleg, I’ve got something else to handle, so I’ll be on my way. Add another fifty million to my donation tonight and make it a total of one hundred million. Donate it all to charity.”

His words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of his decision. After delivering his message, he stepped forward, ready to leave, a figure of power and resolve.

The room fell into a stunned silence, everyone frozen in disbelief at the sudden turn of events.

Clarissa blinked rapidly, her body tensing as disappointment washed over her like a cold wave. She had allowed herself to hope for too much, and now, the reality of his rejection was stark and painful. Instinctively, she stood, her voice breaking through the stillness, “Mr. Eaton, weren’t you going to give me that diamond necklace?”

Luis halted mid-step, turning to face her with a half-smile that felt more like a smirk. “When did I ever say I’m giving it to you?” he replied, his tone laced with a teasing edge.

In truth, he had never explicitly promised her the necklace. He had merely asked if she liked it.

Maybe I misinterpreted his intentions, she thought, a flicker of self-doubt creeping in. No. There’s no way I could have misunderstood his interest!

“You just asked if I liked it, I thought… I thought…” she stammered, her heart racing with confusion.

“Liking something and actually receiving it are two entirely different matters. If you can’t grasp that distinction, perhaps you should head back to Werewolf University for a little refresher course,” he retorted, his patience clearly waning.

With that, Luis turned his back on her, dismissing her as if she were nothing more than an afterthought.
