I turned and saw Violet in oversized sunglasses, a black leather jacket, a leather skirt, and knee–high boots. She looked stylish and confident.
“Deanna, what are you thinking about?” She took off her sunglasses. Tiredness showed in her eyes.
An assistant rolled a suitcase behind her.
I smiled. “Nothing. Let’s go. The car is outside.”
Violet nodded and told the assistant, “Take my luggage home. I am sleeping at Deanna’s tonight.”
The car moved smoothly down the road.
I drove, eyes on the road, focused.
Violet sat in the passenger seat and asked, “Did you set the time?”
“Yes.”
A red light came on. I braked and handed her a bottle of water from the back. She took it and opened it. “Where?” she asked.
“D Private Hospital.”
Violet tilted her head. “Nice hospital. I know some celebrities who had procedures there.”
I smiled. “They say the doctors are skilled. It should hurt less.”
“Deanna, you can still back out if you want.”
The light turned green and I accelerated. After a moment I answered calmly, “No regrets.”
I was not sure if I said that to myself or to Violet.
My hands tightened on the wheel. My knuckles went white.
Violet’s POV:
Back at Zedowood.
After her shower Deanna sat at the vanity applying skincare. Her phone lay on the table.
I stood at the bathroom door in my pajamas, hesitating and glancing at the table.
“Deanna, can I borrow your phone to make a call? My phone is dead.”
Deanna did not hesitate. She typed the passcode and handed the phone to me.

“Thanks!” I took it and pretended to dial loudly as I slipped into the bathroom.
She did not notice I found Luis’s number and memorized it.
When I came out I gave the phone back.
Deanna looked up. “That was fast.”

“I just asked my manager a few things that need to be done. I am going to shower now.” I forced a smile.
In the bathroom I sat on the closed toilet lid and stared at the number.
