Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 243

**Chapter 243 A Step Too Close**

**Deanna’s POV:**

The conversation we had just shared hung in the air like a dense fog, leaving an uncomfortable silence in its wake.

As the car glided back onto the bustling main road, I found myself lost in thought.

I sat there in the passenger seat, my head resting against the cool glass of the window, my eyes tracing the vibrant city lights that flickered by like shooting stars.

The sidewalks were alive with throngs of people, their laughter and chatter merging into a chaotic symphony that matched the turmoil brewing within me. Cars zoomed past, their headlights slicing through the darkness, a stark contrast to the confusion swirling in my mind.

Stealing a glance at the man seated next to me, I noticed Luis’s jaw clenched tight, his knuckles white as he gripped the steering wheel. The sharp angles of his face appeared even more severe under the kaleidoscope of neon lights flashing outside.

It was evident that he was seething with anger.

When we finally arrived at Zedowood, the weight of the moment pressed heavily on my chest. I unbuckled my seatbelt, opened the door, and stepped out into the cool night air. “Thanks for the ride—” I began, attempting to inject a note of civility into our strained interaction.

Before I could finish my sentence, his door swung open, and Luis emerged, tall and imposing, one hand casually tucked into his pocket. “Come on,” he replied, his voice flat, devoid of warmth.

It was clear he intended to escort me home.

I quickly shook my head, a mix of defiance and determination flooding my veins. “No need. I can manage.”

His response was immediate and sharp. “I’m not just walking you home. I’m walking the mother of my child. What if something happens on the way?”

His tone was laced with irritation, and the darkness in his expression told me that my earlier words had struck a nerve.

I let out a quiet sigh, grappling with the absurdity of his concern. What kind of danger could possibly lurk in the short distance from the gate to my apartment?

Ignoring him, I turned and started walking ahead, my heart racing with a mix of frustration and resolve.

Luis shoved his hands deeper into his pockets, his footsteps echoing behind me—steady, unhurried, but insistent.

As we approached my door, I fished out my keys, the metallic clinking echoing in the stillness. I unlocked the door and pivoted to block his entrance. “I’m home now. You can go,” I stated firmly, my voice unwavering.

Luis let out a short, derisive laugh, the sound sharp and mocking. “What, is someone inside waiting to kick me out?”
