**Chapter 249: Fiasco**
In the midst of the chaos, Luis’s lips twisted into a smirk, his voice languid yet laced with an undercurrent of steel.
“Mr. Vaughn,” he drawled, each word dripping with condescension, “it seems you’ve overlooked the essential parenting handbook. Allow me to take the reins here. We wouldn’t want the world to believe that a pack funded by Mooncrown raises wolves devoid of basic manners. It would reflect poorly on my pack, you see.”
He squeezed the trigger once more—pop, pop, pop—sending beads ricocheting off the twins, their howls of distress echoing through the air.
Just then, like a knight charging into battle, a wiry old woman burst onto the scene, her presence commanding.
“Grandma! Grandma, save us—and Dad!” the boys cried, relief flooding their voices as they spotted her.
Shania Vaughn, their grandmother, planted herself firmly, her eyes ablaze with fury. “You cruel, heartless brute! Hitting my grandsons and my son? May your pups be born without butts!” Her voice rang out, fierce and unyielding.
Luis turned his gaze to Deanna, his expression cool as ice, as if the heat of the moment barely registered. “No need to worry, Deanna. Whether my child has a backside or not is none of your concern.”
“But yours?” he continued, his tone dropping to a dangerously silky whisper. “After today, I doubt they’ll even need pants.”
He tilted his head, a crooked smile playing on his lips, a mix of challenge and mischief. “They attempted to take you down together. So, what do you say we join forces, return the favor, and obliterate the enemy line?”
Deanna simply stared at him, her mind racing.
Is this really what we’ve come to? Pack warfare? And he’s suggesting we team up? Unbelievable.
Shania, reveling in her role as protector, spread her arms wide, a barrier for her family. “If you dare to shoot, then hit me! I’m old—let’s see if you have the guts!”
Deanna tugged gently on Luis’s sleeve, her voice firm yet pleading. “Okay, that’s enough.”
Luis lowered his lashes, his gaze shifting to her delicate fingers gripping his coat, his voice slow and almost menacing. “And what if I hadn’t shown up? They could have harmed my unborn wolf pup. Then what would you have done?”
Deanna was left momentarily speechless, her thoughts a whirlwind.
She had already envisioned herself wielding a broom like a bat—no helpless damsel here.
Feeling the intensity of his stare where her fingers had just been, she quickly released him.
Vince’s face darkened, his jaw tightening. “Mom, what are you doing? Move! Stop causing trouble! He’s my biggest investor and a dominant Alpha!”
Shania puffed herself up even more, indignant.
“I don’t care if he’s the Wolf King reborn—you don’t lay a finger on my boys. I’m an elder—he wouldn’t dare touch me!”
