**Chapter 261: Do You Remember What You Promised Me?**
**Deanna’s POV:**
The night stretched endlessly as I sat in the hotel room, a heavy weight of anticipation pressing down on my chest. Luis had promised to return, yet the hours slipped by without a trace of him. Outside, the world felt surreal, the river glimmering like a thousand diamonds under the soft embrace of the moonlight. It was as if the universe was painting a scene from a fairy tale, but inside, I felt anything but enchanted.
The room was filled with a riot of colors—red roses, Blue Enchantress blooms, delicate bellflowers, and wild roses danced together in a stunning bouquet. Each petal seemed to whisper secrets, and my curiosity got the better of me. I pulled out my phone and searched for their meanings.
“A one-of-a-kind love,” the screen read, and I couldn’t help but wonder if this was merely a coincidence or if Luis had orchestrated this moment with intention. A sinking feeling settled in my stomach; I feared the latter.
Deep within, I sensed a crack forming in my resolve. Was I really as strong as I had convinced myself to be? Would Nyra, my inner wolf, scold me for being so indecisive? Yet, love, in its relentless way, urged me to summon courage, even if just for a fleeting moment.
If only my wolf were awake, I thought wistfully. I could use her wisdom right now. With a sigh, I plucked a bright red rose from the bouquet, the petals soft against my fingertips. I began to strip them away one by one, murmuring the age-old rhyme under my breath, hoping for clarity amidst the chaos.
As dawn approached, the sun broke through the darkness, casting a golden hue across the room. It was a stark contrast to the turmoil swirling in my heart. Suddenly, my phone buzzed, shattering the stillness.
With my eyes still heavy with sleep, I fumbled for my phone on the nightstand. “Hello?” I croaked, still half-dreaming.
“Deanna! Did you see the news?” Violet’s voice crackled through the line, sharp and urgent.
“What news?” I asked, my heart racing.
“It’s the biggest headline in the werewolf community! The Mooncrown Pack just announced that their Alpha is gravely ill and stepping down to recover!”
In an instant, I was wide awake. I shot upright in bed, my heart pounding as I opened my news app. The headlines blared back at me, all about Mooncrown Pack’s Alpha and his sudden decline in health.
“Didn’t you leave with Luis last night? How could he be ‘gravely ill’ so soon? Doesn’t that strike you as odd?” Violet continued, her voice laced with concern.
“I heard he lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his grandmother. Do you think the pureborns from Mooncrown Pack have unusually short lifespans?” My voice trailed off, heavy with dread.
