Luis curled his long fingers and tapped me on the forehead. “Yeah, you heartless girl.
No wonder…
No wonder Puddy felt so familiar.
Puddy was actually that same dog from back then.
And Puddy still remembered me!
They all still remembered me!
But I had forgotten them…
My chest felt like a hand was squeezing it, heavy and tight. Every breath hurt a little, sharp and sour.
My eyes started to burn. I felt awful.
I took a moment to calm down, sniffled, and asked, “Where did this photo come from?”
I didn’t remember taking a photo like that at all.
Luis looked at the photo, as if he was falling into the memory too. “I took it in secret when you were playing with Puddy.”
I blinked quickly, holding back the tears in my eyes. I pretended like everything was fine and joked on purpose, “So you liked me since way back then.”
Luis’s lips twitched upward. “Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not into little kids.”
That silly comment broke the sad mood and made me let out a small laugh.
Tears still shone in my eyes as I looked at him quietly.
“Why didn’t you tell me?
“Why … didn’t you tell me earlier?”
Luis’s eyes dimmed a bit, though he still kept a small smile.
After a moment, he said softly, “Because back then, you were in someone else’s arms.”

A wave of guilt and blame washed over me all at once.

My eyelashes shook even more. My throat felt tight, and my voice came out rough. “I… don’t
deserve this.”
I didn’t deserve him treating me so well.
Luis looked straight at me and said slowly, “I’m the one who decides what you deserve.”
I couldn’t hold back anymore. Big tears rolled down my face.
I said, “You said pregnant women shouldn’t cry. Look. You’re the one making me cry again.”
Luis raised his hand and gently wiped my tears with the rough tip of his finger. “Yeah, that’s
on me.
“Don’t cry, Deanna. I never want you to cry. If I knew telling you this would make you cry today, I wouldn’t have said anything.”
I reached out and wrapped my arms around his neck, hiding my face against him. My tears soaked into his shirt and slid down toward his chest. I whispered, “You’re going to spoil me way too much.”
Luis let out a soft laugh. “If I spoil you, then I’ll take responsibility till the end. You’re the future Luna of the Mooncrown Pack. So what if you’re a little spoiled? No one will dare complain.”
Hearing him say that made me hold him even tighter.
Like I could somehow make up for the time I forgot about him.
