Chapter 39 Dump Her Now
Jake’s POV:
Heaned back in my chair, face calm and distant.
My mother’s arrogance no longer surprised me.

She marched up to the conference table and dropped her bag down with a loud thud. “What’s going on with you and that Omega?”
My brows tightened. I knew where this was going. Sure enough, she raised her voice.
“I saw her at the mall today. That woman had the nerve to talk back to me. I told you before–her manners are terrible. Even her birth parents don’t think much of her. Why bother with her? Good thing you two are only engaged, not yet holding the mating ceremony. Let’s just call it off. I’ll find you a proper daughter from a better family.”
She didn’t stop there. “And that Peggie–stay away from her too. Don’t fall for her story about leaving you and then getting a heart condition. She’s just trying to pin her problems on you. These women are all the same, one worse than the next.”
Listening to her go on and on, frustration burned in me. “Mom, stay out of my love life.”
Her eyes flashed. “Of course they’re my business! You’re the only sole future Alpha of the Olsendreich Pack. Your Luna represents the reputation of this pack and the future bloodline. I never liked Deanna, but you insisted she clung to you so much that I gave in. Now her true colors are showing. You need to dump her today.”
“I won’t break up with her,” I said without hesitation.
“What? After everything she’s done, you still won’t leave her? Jake, you’re out of your mind.”
I stood up, done with her ranting.
“As the Alpha, I’ll handle my duty. But my marriage is none of your business. And stop picking on Deanna.”
I turned and walked out.
Behind me, her loud voice echoed, “How is this me picking on her? She embarrassed me in public today and made me look bad in front of everyone!”
Outside the meeting room, I called Axel over.
“Has LA finished the ceremonial gown?”
“It’s ready,” Axel replied. “I also secured the Everlove jewelry set from the auction house. Everything’s waiting for Ms. Deanna to try
on.”
The Everlove set had cost me fifty million dollars.
But I didn’t care. I had promised Deanna the grandest wedding anyone had ever seen. She would be the most beautiful bride.
I was lost in thought when my phone rang.
It was Peggie.

I answered. Her gentle, cheerful voice came through.
Jake, I had some free time today, so I made desserts. Want to come try them?”
‘I can’t make it today.”
Her voice fell flat.
‘Oh! Is something going on?”
hesitated, then said, “Deanna’s trying on her ceremonial gown today.”
‘eggie’s POV:
My hand froze around the phone.

My voice shook as I blurted, “Jake, I know I’m asking too much. But I’m scheduled for a heart transplant next week. Can you wait Intil after my surgery before you two move forward with the gown fitting?”
His tone turned cold. “Peggie, the transplant is about your health. You can’t use it as leverage. Jorge will take good care of you.”
The line went dead before I could answer.
stared at the dark phone screen, frustration and anger rushing through me. With a sharp motion, I tossed the phone onto the bed.
.ast night I pretended to faint just to make Jake stay. But even then, he was restless the whole time. He tried to leave more than ›nce. If I hadn’t cried and begged, saying I was afraid something might happen in the middle of the night, he never would have tayed.
ately, I could feel it–Jake’s patience with me was wearing thin. He wasn’t treating me with the same care as before.
Vo.
couldn’t let this keep going. If it did, Jake would end up choosing Deanna over me.
Just as my thoughts spun out of control, the door to the hospital room opened. Jorge walked in with a tray of medicine.
When he saw me wiping tears from my face, his shoes clicked softly against the floor. His eyes were heavy with worry.
“Peggie, time for your medicine.” His voice was as gentle as always as he held the pills out to me.
“Jake said he’s taking Deanna to try on her ceremonial gown for the mating ceremony. Where are they going? I have to stop them.”
Jorge pressed a firm hand on my shoulder. “Peggie, you’re about to have heart surgery. You can’t get worked up.”
