Jake’s POV:
Before Terence left, he pulled a book out of nowhere and handed it to me.

“Jake, you’ve got time while you’re sick. Read this. Do what it says. Maybe Deanna will come back to you.”
I glanced at the title “100 Ways to Win Her.”
I hated the idea, but I flipped through it when I had a moment.
One tip stuck out. When your girlfriend is in trouble, step in and help her. As her boyfriend, you earn points for helping her.
Muses was planning to open a business in our land. One word from me could sway their principal about which mall to pick.
I remembered that Mistbane Pack runs a mall too. They were competing for this.
Last time, I’d made Deanna beg for that investment. That had been wrong.
Maybe I can help her to secure this opportunity, as a peace gesture would bring her back. Maybe she’d stop making a scene.
“Jake, you never refuse such a tiny request from me. D–do you hate me now?”
Peggie’s tears rolled down from her cheeks.
I frowned at her and said, “Peggie, Mistbane Pack is also competing for this.”
Peggie’s POV:
What is there not to understand?
Deanna again. It’s always Deanna.
My face slipped. I clenched my teeth and said, “Are you saying Deanna knew I’d ask you for help and told you not to? Does she hate me that much?”
“No, Peggie. I wanted to help her.”
I couldn’t believe what I had heard. I shook my head again and again. The pain in my chest made it hard
to breathe.
My voice was choking as I asked, “Jake, how can you do this to me? I’m the one who loves you the most. If your mother hadn’t forced me to leave you back then, you’d still be my boyfriend.”
“Sorry, Peggie. I can’t agree to that, but I can help you with other demands.”
His tone was firm. No pleading could move him.

I dug my nails into my palm to force myself to stay calm.
Peggie, be gentle.
You’re gracious and sensible.
Since Jake is set on this, you must carry yourself with dignity.
Make him feel guilty.
Once a man feels guilty, he won’t be able to slip away from your control.
I mouthed the words inside my head, took a deep breath, and forced a polite smile.
“I understand, Jake. I apologize for making things hard for you.”
I turned and ran out, trembling.

Halfway to the door, my phone buzzed–a notification showed ten million dollars was wired into my bank
account.
Deanna’s POV:
Violet used to be one of Muses‘ brand ambassadors in the country.
Through her, I secured a meeting with Milo York, the principal of Muses.
Milo was a middle–aged man from Fruales. He wore a neat, refined suit, and his silver hair was perfectly combed.
He sat with one leg crossed and casually looked over the proposal I brought.
Milo skimmed it once and then dropped it onto a stack of other proposals on the table, making the pile
thicker.
“Ms. Wiley,” he said, “can you tell me why I should open a shop in the mall run by your company?”
I followed his gaze.
The table was stacked with proposal files from different companies, all fighting for the same deal. The competition was brutal.
Still, I kept my cool and laid out the benefits and advantages my company could bring.
Milo gave a slight smile. “That’s not the point. Whatever your mall offers, other malls can give the same. Alright, let’s not waste each other time.”
My heart dropped. I rushed to speak. “Mr. York, I—”
He cut me off. “Business is about relationships. I agree to this meeting because Violet used to be one of our ambassadors. But when all the offers look alike, I go with the people I’m close to. You understand? That’s
