Chapter 73 Double Standard
Deanna’s POV:

Cloudspire Restaurant was the most famous luxury spot in the center of Lycanland, perched all the way up on the 100th floor.
It got its name because it seemed to rise high enough to touch the clouds.
People said you could feel Nyra’s blessing more clearly here.
Dinner in this place cost a fortune, at least hundreds of thousands of dollars, and you needed a special membership card.
Regular werewolves couldn’t even step inside.
I didn’t have a card myself, but Jake used to bring me here.
But today, the moment I arrived, a server greeted me with full respect and led me upstairs. “Ms. Wiley, Mr. Eaton has reserved the Mooncrown Pack’s private view seat for you.”
I glanced at the table. It was at the very top, one I had never seen open to outsiders. So it was reserved for the Mooncrown Pack all along.
I sat down lazily, resting my chin on one hand, letting my eyes wander.
The sky stretched wide and endless right before me. It looked even more enchanting than usual, wrapping the city in its glitter.
The frustration I’d felt earlier–when Milo turned me down–faded quite a bit.
Money really did solve 99% of problems.
If it didn’t, then you simply didn’t have enough of it.
The view was so stunning I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos.
I was about to post them online to update my long–silent social media when a memory hit me.
Peggie had once posted a story from this restaurant too.
She posted it on the day before my anniversary with Jake.
He had promised to bring me here to celebrate.
But the day before, Peggie shared a gorgeous picture with the caption that read, “Spending the money of my favorite alpha on the best dinner.”
When I saw that post, I broke down instantly.
I couldn’t hold back from confronting Jake, asking why he would give such an exclusive membership card

to a dualborn werewolf.
What did he say back then?
He thought I was overreacting, making a fuss out of nothing.
When I was upset and argued with him, he just looked at me with pure annoyance and walked away.
That was Jake. He always thought I was being unreasonable. He was best at letting me cool off alone.
Thinking about that now, I stared at the draft of my new post and suddenly lost all interest.
I set my phone down and took a sip of water. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a figure standing by the marble dining table.
For a moment, I thought it was Luis, and a smile tugged at my lips.
But when I looked up, it was Peggie.
She wore a white dress and stood across the table with her arms crossed. Her cheeks were flushed, like
she’d had a few drinks.
I looked away, but the irritation I had just pushed down flared right back up. Why did I have to run into her everywhere I went?
Peggie’s grating voice hit my ears. “Deanna, Jake’s membership card is with me. How did you even get in here?”
I frowned and leaned lazily back in my chair at her question.
“Do I need to report my whereabouts to a half–blood like you?”
Her face twisted into an unsightly look.
“You think I want to see you? Was it you who told Jake not to help me with the Muses deal? I didn’t expect you to be this sneaky. Acting all high and mighty on the surface, but behind the scenes, you’re just jealous of me. I really underestimated you.”
What?
Jake and I broke up a long time ago. How could she still be trying to pin this on me?
I wouldn’t go crawling back to him.
