Chapter 81 Deanna, Wait for Me
Deanna’s POV:
“My head hurts. The truck had cargo that couldn’t be delivered because of you crashing into my truck. You owe me for lost work, for injury, for emotional damage…
The bald man rubbed his hands. He looked me over, then my Mercedes. Finally he decided. “At least 200,000 dollars.“”
I almost laughed out loud, I couldn’t believe the ridiculous demand.
The driver wasn’t hurt. The truck looked fine. He was asking for a fortune for one day’s wage.
Two hundred thousand dollars wasn’t a problem for me.
But getting ripped off like that? I’m no fool.
“You said you were sick. I’m injured too. Let’s go to the hospital and get checked together; we’ll see if those demands of yours stand. If you won’t settle privately, let the enforcers decide.”
His face turned grim at my words.
He stepped forward, furious. His voice rose.
“So you don’t want to pay! I’ll tell you this! You hit my truck, and you won’t leave until you pay. If you insist on calling the enforcers, I’ll kill you now.”
He rolled up his sleeve, showing tattooed arms and hard muscles.
My chest tightened. I took a reflex step back.
Damn it. If my wolf hadn’t been asleep, I wouldn’t be scared of him.

Right then my phone buzzed in my pocket. The screen lit up with the caller name. It was Luis.
I answered fast. The bald man kept shouting.
Luis must have heard him too. His voice suddenly turned deep and low over the line. “Deanna, what’s wrong?”
I pressed my lips together and stared at the bald man’s oversized forearm.
“I–I accidentally hit a car.”
“You have the nerve to call for backup?” the bald man barked. “Pay up, or you will suffer!”
“Give me the address.” Luis’s voice cut cold through the phone.
“N–Nebula Street,” I said.
I heard quick, heavy footsteps on Luis’s end of the line.
“Get in the car and lock the doors right now. Don’t talk to him until I get there. Wait for me. And–don’t be afraid.”

Pain and the bald man’s naked threat pinched through me.
I was trying to act tough, but when Luis told me not to be afraid, my eyes suddenly stung
I quickly slammed the car door shut and locked it while the bald man wasn’t looking.
He went berserk, pounding the window with his fists. “You-! You bitch! Slut! Come out here! When I catch you, I’ll tear you apart!”
he shouted.
I placed my hands behind my head. My brain buzzed.
The man was hitting so hard the whole car shook.
If he kept it up, he’d break the glass before Luis arrived.
Suddenly a sharp engine roar cut through the air.
I looked up and saw a Lamborghini screech to a stop.
The door slammed open, and Luis stepped out.
He wore a perfectly fitted black shirt and dress pants. He walked fast, each step sharp and deliberate.
The bald man heard the noise. He turned around and froze, his hand still raised.
Luis walked straight to him and grabbed the bald man’s hand on the window.
I didn’t see the move clearly–I only heard a crisp snap–and then the man screamed like his heart was being ripped out.
