Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 89

89 The Kissing Game

Deanna’s POV:

Violet and I sat on one side of the VIP booth, right across from Jake.

The dance floor was packed, bodies moving under the flashing lights. The music was so loud it drowned out most conversations, which was fine with me. It kept us separated from the people across the room.

Violet clutched her glass, downing whiskey one gulp after another. I tried to grab it from her, but she tilted her head away and

slurred.

This drink’s expensive. Way smoother than the whiskey outside. Might as well drink it all.

I couldn’t stop her, so I stayed close, watching in case she slipped or fell.

Every now and then, I looked at the crowd but made sure not to glance across the booth.

The breakup with Jake had been ugly. The best way forward was to live like strangers, with no reason to cross paths again.

But even when I avoided his direction, I could feel his burning stare on mewatchful, heavy, and impossible to ignore.

It made my skin crawl.

That’s when the door swung open. Peggie walked in.

Tonight Peggie looked nothing like her usual self. She wore a lace dress with thin straps, a deep V neckline in the front, and a short and tight fit. Her breasts almost spilled out of the neckline. The mix of her sweet, delicate face and that bold outfit made it clear- she came prepared.

Someone by the door gave a sharp whistle, but she didn’t even blink. She walked straight through the crowd and dropped onto the couch beside Jake, close enough that her arm brushed against his.

Jake frowned but didn’t say a word.

I lowered my gaze to Violet’s glass and didn’t bother looking up.

Before this, I might’ve been jealous. But now? It just didn’t matter.

Terence frowned at Peggie. Why are you here?

Her voice was soft. Terence, it’s your birthday. I came to celebrate with you.

Don’t bother,Terence cut her off. He motioned at the others in the booth. I’m busy entertaining friends. If that’s all, you should go.

Then Robert leaned forward from the couch, smirking. Come on, Terence, that’s not fair. Didn’t you just say, The more, the merrier?

In that instant, I understood. Robert had invited her.

He wanted to stir up trouble for me.

Victed posted herself up from the table, weying unsteadily the blurted out, What now, diaceting someone cal

Gears Uke wherever there’s a grp you just have to show up

At her words, laughter rippled through the crowd.

Peggle’s face turned crimson

Violet, I know you’re friends with Deanna, but you don’t have to insult me live that?

trolled my eyes from the side

This bitch was hinting Violet only said that because I told her to?

Violet gave a sharp laugh. Insult you? Why wait for the right time? Dressed like that, what else are you trying to do but lure ment And only a fool would fall for it.

She even shot a pointed glance at Jake,

Robert suddenly cut in, grinning You’ve got a sharp tongue, superstar. How about you prove yourself in a game?

Violet tilted her head. Why not? What game?

Robert’s voice held a challenge. Loser does a dareeither takes something off or Kisses someone. You in?

What? That is obviously a setup for the women to lose.

I jumped in fast, trying to stop Violet. Don’t do this. This game-

Too late.

She smirked, tipsy and reckless. Fine. Let’s play.

I was stupefied. I cursed Robert over and over inside my head.

Next time, I swore, I’d never let Violet drink outside again.

People quickly started counting players, and somehow I got pulled in too.

Then, from the corner, Jake’s low voice rang out.

I’ll join.

My head snapped toward him.

Jake? Why is he getting involved?

Right after, Peggie stood as well. I’ll play too.”

Just like that, the host began dealing cards.

The first round ended fast. Joanna Sharp, a girl across the table, lost.

Her fingers trembled around her cards, and her face flushed bright red.
