I watched in shock as Jillian plunged straight out the secondfloor window. Before I could react, a piercing scream ripped through the air.

Jillian!

Desmond bolted forward like lightning.

He stretched out his arms, desperate to catch her, but his hands closed on nothing but air.

He spun around, his eyes bloodshot, his face twisted with rage. He glared at me as if he wanted to tear me apart.

Deanna, I saw it! You pushed Jillian! You tried to kill heryou heartless bitch!

Smack!

Desmond’s hand came crashing across my face. The force belonging to a Beta was so strong that my vision went black.

I stumbled and hit the cold floor hard.

My cheek burned, the sting spreading deep like fire.

Jillian had timed this perfectly. She knew exactly when Desmond would show up. She staged the whole thing, and now she was pinning it on me.

I pushed myself up, bracing on the floor, and shot Desmond a cold stare. Desmond, you idiot.

You dare insult me?Veins bulged at his temple.

Deanna, you’re done. If Jillian dies, I’ll make sure you rot in prison. Get downstairsnow!

He yanked me up like a rag doll and dragged me toward the stairs.

Downstairs, the music had stopped.

Guests crowded around the lawn outside, whispering and pointing.

Kathryn and Philip shoved their way to the front.

When Kathryn saw Jillian lying on the ground, she dropped to her knees, clutching her.

She cried out loud, Jillian! What happened? How did you fall from the second floor? Somebody, call a doctor!

Desmond shoved me forward and threw me into the middle of the crowd.

I hit the ground again, my elbow scraping against gravel, sending a jolt of pain through me.

He pointed at me and roared for everyone to hear. She’s the one! Deanna pushed Jillian out the window!

Jillian clung to Kathryn’s chest, sobbing.

Kathryn glared up at me, her face twisted with anger. Deanna, Jillian is your sister. How could you be so vile? 1 regret ever bringing you back into this family three years ago.

Philip’s expression was grim. He turned to Desmond. Are you sure, Desmond? Did you see it clearly? Was it really Deanna?

Dad, I saw it with my own eyes! Deanna pushed her. Our pack will never protect a murderer. She should rot in the prison for a lifetime.

The crowd erupted in loud whispers, their judgment heavy in the air.

Did Deanna really push her? Why would she do that at her birthday party?

Who knows? People are greedy. Maybe she just wanted Jillian out of the way.

But to push her in front of everyone? That’s just dumb. Doesn’t add up.

What’s so strange? Deanna grew up in a human household. You know humans! They are rotten to the core!

Their whispers cut through me like ice.

Perfect.

Jillian had finally done itshe ruined me.

But I couldn’t collapse now. I couldn’t give them the satisfaction of seeing me break.

Even if no one believed me, I wouldn’t back down and admit my defeat.

My nails dug deep into my palm. I ground out the words, slow and sharp. I didn’t push her. Jillian fell on her own. Desmond, you’re just a fool being used as her pawn. Don’t you dare frame me.

Jillian sobbed louder, her tears pouring like rain.

Even if I act out, I’d never hurt myself. Deanna, you shoved me, and now you’re trying to blame me? Desmond saw it happen. No one’s going to believe you!

Kathryn shut her eyes for a moment. When she opened them, her voice was cold and final.

Hand Deanna to the enforcers. I don’t have such a cruel daughter.

I laughed. Then, to my surprise, the laughter melted into tears spilling down my cheeks.

Philip broke in.

Sending her straight to jail will shame our pack even more. First we need to get Jillian treated. Lock Deanna up for nowwe’ll deal

with this later.
