Chapter 272: EPILOGUE

THREE YEARS LATER

~~

"So with that, Gamma Rhett’s name continues to be sung by all races as the man who single-handedly vanquished the vampires by killing the vampire lord. However, the truth is... He had much more help than many think." I came to the end of the story for the umpteenth time with my students.

They always loved hearing the story of the ’messiah of werewolf kind’, which had been written down as a compulsory part of their history syllabus.

It had been exactly three years... Three years since my mate and the love of my life sacrificed himself to save the world. Just like the rest of the world, I was able to piece myself back together and move on.

I still cried myself to sleep occasionally, but I was getting better each day. Besides, teaching these children, the future of our pack helped soothe my heart.

Just then, a young girl raised her hand to ask a question.

"Yes, Martha." I pointed at her, beckoning her to ask her a question.

She looked around before asking. "Miss Isleen... But what about the Gamma’s son? Kylo... What happened to him?"

My heart stopped for a second there. Kylo...

"Well, good question Martha. Kylo had to move away from the pack, ashamed of the fact that he’d almost killed his father. He felt guilty that if he hadn’t been stopped... Then perhaps he would’ve prevented his father from fulfilling his destiny." I answered calmly, trying desperately to mask the hurt in my voice.

Another child, a boy, raised his hand and I gestured at him to speak as well.

"Miss Isleen, what about the mystery of the ’high-rank traitor ’? Who was it?" The boy asked a question that I’d been hoping someone would ask.

I shook my head before answering. "In a shocking twist, it turns out the traitor was the last Alpha. He’d been the one to give out information to the vampires that let them know we were having a festival the night of the full moon. He also told them when the enlisted soldiers would be starting their training allowing the vampires to attack them during their very first night at camp. However, after the death of the vampire lord, Alpha Beowulf confessed to his crimes, forcing the Alpha council to lock him up in the dungeons."

The students murmured among themselves. Yeah, the news had come as a shock to me as well.

Currently, the Raven Wood pack doesn’t have an Alpha. The seat was open, left for when they’d be able to find someone worthy enough to fill in the Alpha’s seat. The Alpha’s bloodline had held some importance, after all.

Another boy raised his hands and asked. "So, Gamma Rhett would still be alive if he hadn’t stupidly sacrificed himself for his mate?"

I gasped as the students giggled at their friend’s question. I tried my best to contain my anger before speaking.

"First off, that ’mate’ is standing before you right now." My voice oozed with sarcasm, forcing the students to stare at me in stunned silence.

After scanning through their faces with my gaze, I continued. "Secondly, you got it wrong Casey. Gamma Rhett’s sacrifice wasn’t ’stupidity’. The mate bond is far more complex than you think. If it hadn’t been for his will to save his mate... Me, that day, he probably wouldn’t have summoned the strength that led him to kill the vampire lord."

The students remained silent while the one who asked the question, Casey, lowered his head in shame.

I didn’t blame him anyway, he was just a child.

Choosing to ignore the distraction, I sighed before turning to the board behind me. "Alright, everyone, open your notebooks. Let’s do a little pop quiz."
