After she left her father and brother, Lucile was the only one who remained by Lady Veyra's side, constantly protecting and trusting her.
Now, watching her sit quietly day after day, confined in a world overshadowed by darkness, Lady Veyra felt a stronger hit than she cared to admit. The guilt was a persistent itch she couldn't relieve. If she could trade her own eyes for her mother's, she would have done so instantly.
The same woman feared for her ruthless grip and iron spine suddenly felt like she was standing on sand, all because her mother was hurting.
"I can fix her eyes," Matthew confirmed, calm as ever.
Her eyes locked on his. "Then let's get moving. If you pull it off, half my territory is yours."
He gave a small, almost amused smile. "I'm not here for land or titles. Just a favor—when I need it."
"Fine. Whatever it is, I'm in," she shot back without a second's hesitation.
Matthew moved to Lucile and softly covered her eyes with his palm. He let his inner energy flow, coaxing out the stubborn parasites still burrowed inside. Slowly, they condensed in his palm, invisible to everyone else.
The moment they left their host, they were as good as dead. A light squeeze, and they dissolved into nothing.
Lucile let out a shaky breath. "It feels... lighter. That crawling itch is gone. I still can't see, though."
"That was just cleaning house," Matthew clarified. "Now we repair the damage."
He unrolled a set of fine silver needles. In one smooth motion, they were in place—each point around her eyes hit with pinpoint precision. The stimulation teased her shrunken optic nerves back to life.
Her eyelids twitched. Matthew then slipped a mini Rejuvenating Pill into her hand. The moment it dissolved, it began mending the nerves that had been chewed to threads.
Matthew looked at the window, then nodded slightly toward it to signal Lady Veyra to draw the curtains. Once the room was dimmed, he leaned toward Lucile. "Alright. Open them. Slowly."
Her lashes fluttered and then lifted, revealing a young man gazing at her with steady eyes. On one side stood a pink-haired girl, and on the other, her own daughter. The maids lingered behind, holding their breath.
"I... I can see you. All of you!" Lucile's voice cracked with disbelief.
