“You’re practically glued to Dr. Gavin Huxley. Don’t tell me you’ve set your sights on him now.” Weston pressed his nose to Laura’s, brushing it in a slow, provocative graze.

His tone sliced like a razor, yet the gesture itself smoldered with unspoken intimacy.

Wrapped in his breath, she felt as though his very scent had swallowed the air around her.

Especially at the tip of her nose–where his skin met hers–the heat was unbearable, radiating outward like wildfire.

She didn’t need a mirror to know her cheeks must have been crimson beyond redemption.

“Cat got your tongue?” Weston murmured, his voice dark and low.

Her silence, instead of soothing him, only stoked the blaze in his chest.

“You like pretty faces, don’t you? Even at Velvet Crown, you only book the best–looking male escorts. Is that it? Any handsome man will do, and you’ll cozy right up?” The edge of jealousy cut through his voice.

“I’m drawn to beauty, so what?” Laura snapped. “I earn my own living. I can spend it however I please. How is that any of your concern?”

“I am your boyfriend!” Weston barked, sudden and explosive.

“Only on paper,” Laura retorted, voice icy,

“So you really believe all we share is a contract?” Weston glared, eyes unforgiving.

“If the contract vanished, we’d have nothing, Weston. Inside my head, I may fancy anyone I want, so long as I don’t drag your name into a public mess.”

Contract. The very word hammered at him.

Every time she said that word, fury coiled tighter inside him.

“What about that private little huddle with Dr. Huxley over dinner? Everyone saw you two whispering like lovers. They’ll think my girlfriend is fickle, that what we have is a shamn. Isn’t that trouble enough?”

“If I’m such a liability, tear up the agreement. Sue me afterward, I don’t care. Now step aside. I’m going back to the table.”

“And if I refuse?”

A woman’s voice drifted in from the corridor. “Dr. Huxley, what a surprise. Are you dining here as well?”

“Yes.” Gavin’s gentle baritone answered. “By the way, a friend of mine went to the restroom and hasn’t returned. Could you check whether she’s still inside?”

Ajolt of tension shot through Laura’s body.

Gavin stood just outside the neighboring restroom door, a few steps away.

Sensing her panic, Weston dipped lower. His warm lips skimmed her earlobe, and her body shivered in involuntary response.

“Tell me, Laura. If he walks in and sees us like this, what do you suppose he’ll feel?”

“Don’t you dare,” Laura hissed.

A cloud flickered across Weston’s eyes. The more she reacted, the clearer it became–Gavin mattered to her.

“But I want to,” he whispered.

As he spoke, his hand slid into her pocket, fished out her phone, and lifted it between them.

Laura’s shoulders stiffened as she met his eyes, suspicion flickering like a knife’s edge. “What exactly are you doing?”

“Call him,” Weston said, his voice calm yet brooking no argument. “Tell him something’s come up and we have to leave. The medication you left on the table and your purse, I’ll send someone to fetch them.”

Laura scowled, heat blooming in her cheeks. “If you want to leave, go alone. Why should I go with you?”

From outside, a woman called out, “Dr. Huxley, I checked the restroom. There’s no one else inside.”

“Appreciate it,” Gavin replied.

Weston lowered his voice to a conspiratorial hush. “Won’t you call him? If he rings and your phone blares, he’ll see us like this.”

Laura shot Weston a glare, bit her lip, grabbed her phone, and dialed Gavin.

“Ms. Wentworth, where did you disappear to? I’ve been looking everywhere.” Gavin’s voice crackled through the speaker.

She parted her lips to answer, but Weston’s mouth brushed her earlobe. Laura froze, the words turning to stone in her throat.
