The Day He Forgot He Hated Me by Evangeline Marrow 18
Gage and Asher were both quiet for the longest time after my admission. Asher’s hand didn’t move away from mine but I could feel the tension in the room change. Even if I couldn’t see their faces.
“Trinny. You didn’t kill Dane.” Gage said.
“I did. It was my fault.” I said.
“Dane was your brother. He loved you. I know that more than anyone. He told me how much he loved you. He was my best friend.” Asher said.
“I know. But it’s my fault that he died. I wanted to go outside the pack that day. We went running through the woods. We didn’t know that there were rogues out there.” I said.
“Exactly. You didn’t know. Dane yelled at you to get back to the pack. He mind linked me and the warriors to get out there. His main priority was you. He told me that you were with him. He knew that I would get to you first and save you. He tried protecting you. That doesn’t mean that you killed him.” Asher said.
“My parents blame me. That’s why they started doing this. They hate me.” I said.
“Trinny. Your brother called me and told me that you were out there. He knew the warriors would help him with the rogues. But he called me personally to tell me that you were out there.” Asher
said.
“That’s why you saved me instead of helping him?” I asked.
“Yes. He told me not to go near him. I had to find you. All he cared about was saving you.” Asher said.
“And all this crap with my family?” I asked.
“I knew that something had changed but I needed to get away when I did. I knew my brothers. would keep you safe.” Asher explained. He was obviously talking cryptically because Gage didn’t know that we were mates. I guess he hasn’t told anyone about us.
I don’t blame him since I said that I wasn’t going to accept him. Our whole mating is up in the air at the moment and neither of us know what the hell we’re doing at the moment.
“I’m sorry that we failed you,” Gage said.
“You didn’t fail me. It’s not your fault,” I said.
“I can’t believe they are actually blaming you for this. Rogues killed him. Dane loved. you. He would have done anything for you. He was going to be my Beta if he was still alive.” Asher said.

“It makes no sense. You knew this was happening so you made Spencer your Beta,” I said.
“He hasn’t been sworn in. He was never going to be sworn in as my Beta. I just needed to keep him close while I figured out what was going on in your house. I knew that something was going on while I was away. I saw the change in you before I left. It felt like I could practically feel your pain.” Asher explained. I knew that he was telling me that he could actually feel my pain, but he couldn’t say too much in front of Gage. It was pretty hard trying to have a conversation with him without anyone knowing that we’re mated to each other.
“I
“I can’t believe this,” I said, starting to slur my words.
“I think the painkillers are kicking in.” Gage said.
“We’ll let you get some rest. We’ll be back in the morning.” Asher said.
“Okay,” I mumbled.
Those painkillers were exactly what I needed because I fell asleep and actually managed to stay asleep the whole night. I knew Asher and Gage were going to make sure that no one knew I was
here.
The doctor also attached an IV to flush out the wolfsbane
from my system to help me heal faster.
He had to keep an eye on my punctured lung. And at the moment, I didn’t need surgery. I had hoped it would stay that way. That it was alright on its own without surgery.
When I woke up in the morning, I heard the monitors beeping around me and it took me a moment
to remember where I was.
I could open my eyes a little more than I could last night and I saw Arlo sitting in the chair next to my bed.
“Hey.” I said.
“Trinity. Oh my goddess. Are you alright? I am so sorry that I wasn’t here last night. I should have been. The guys told me about everything. I am so sorry.” Arlo said, bombarding me with apologies.
“Wow. Slow down. My head already hurts.” I said.
“Sorry.” He said.
“You don’t have anything to be sorry for. I don’t expect any of you to baby sit me.” I said.
“Well, if the guys weren’t looking out for you then things would have turned out so much worse.” Arlo said.
“Gage told you about Spencer?” I asked.

Q+25 Pints “Yeah. About what he planned to do. That prick actually opened the door with his belt undone. He obviously didn’t know that Gage was right outside your window listening to everything.” Arlo said.
“I can’t believe this,” I said.
“Why didn’t you tell us? We would have helped you. We would have gotten you out of there sooner.”
He said.
“Because when they first started doing it, I thought they were right. I thought I was responsible for killing him. And then it just started getting worse and worse and I just couldn’t tell anyone.” I said.
“Well, don’t worry. You’re not going back to that house.” He said.
“Where are they? Do your parents know?” I asked.
“Yeah. Asher had to tell them. He couldn’t keep something like this a secret from them.” Arlo said.
“My parents are friends with your parents. They are really close. They aren’t going to believe me.” I
said.
“Dad ordered the warriors to go to your house to bring your parents back to the packhouse. They were gone.” Arlo said.
“What do you mean?” I asked, looking at him, confused.
“They took off. They were just gone. We don’t know if they plan to stay gone or what. But I think they knew how much trouble they were in. They couldn’t explain this away as if you simply fell
down the stairs.” He said.
“I guess not.” I said.
Arlo’s phone started going off and he looked at it but he ignored the call.
“Don’t ignore your girlfriend because of me.” I said.
“Nicole can wait.” Arlo said.
“Nicole is pissed that you’re here with me instead of with her. She’s always hated me.” I said.
“Yeah. She’s never liked how close we are.” He admitted.
“I don’t want to get you into trouble,” I said.
“Don’t worry about it. I’d rather be here anyway. I forgot how annoying she can be. She just wants my attention all the time.” He said and I laughed, but then started coughing.
“Don’t make me laugh. It hurts.” I said.
“Sorry.” He said.
