CHAPTER 31

Asher was looking at me with sorrow in his eyes, but he knew that I wanted to tell Gage the truth. At least

then he would have a little closure to everything that happened. But I wasn’t prepared for it to go down like

this.

Everyone was staring at me and it was only Gage and Luna Petra that were just finding out that I was

mated to Asher. And I couldn’t stand the way Gage was looking at me. Not after everything we’d been

through.

I didn’t know what to say and honestly, for the first time in my life, my mind was completely blank. I didn’t

know what to say to anyone, let alone Gage.

So I turned around and I walked back down the stairs and out the front door.

There were a few people hanging around on the front floor of the packhouse that had heard the yelling but

they didn’t do anything to stop me as I was walking past them.

I didn’t stop until I got home again and I sat on the couch. My mind was swirling and I didn’t know how

Gage was going to handle this sort of news. I didn’t know if he was going to accept that or not.

There was still a chance that he was still going to hate us, even though we had no choice over who our

mates are.

I just sat there staring at the wall until I heard the door open a little while later.

I didn’t need to turn to look at who it was.

Asher sat beside me and put his arm around me, pulling me towards him.

I was almost in a state of shock. I didn’t know what to do or what to say to anyone. We hadn’t spoken

about us two out loud but now that the whole Alpha family knew about it, there was no hiding it.

“Mom wants you to come to dinner tonight.” Asher said.

“I don’t think I can.” i said.

“Don’t worry about Gage. He’ll either not be there or he’ll behave himself.” Asher said.

“I never wanted to hurt him.” I said.

“It was going to happen no matter what. You know that as well as I do.” He said.

“I know. But that still doesn’t make me feel good about it.” I said.

“I know. Me either.” He said. So I rested my head on his shoulder and he was drawing circles around my back with his hand.

“How the hell did my life get so screwed up? I mean, your family were the ones that I could count on when mine were so f****d up. And now I don’t feel like I’ve even got that. How the hell did I manage to alienate my best friends who saw me through everything?” I asked.

“You didn’t. Maybe I should have told Gage that we were mates when I found out. Before you guys were

18. At least he would have had a chance to get used to the idea. I knew even when you guys were kids

that he had a crush on you. He just didn’t want to ruin the friendship.” Asher said.

“I never wanted to ruin the friendship. But look at us.” I said.

“I know. He’ll get over it. Eventually.” Asher said.

“Why does your mother want me to come to dinner?” I asked.

“Because she just found out that you’re going to be the next Luna of this pack. There’s a lot that she needs

to plan. Like a huge extravagant party to announce that you are the next Luna.” Asher said.

“Oh, hell no. No way. I am not having her throw a grand Ball for me.” I said. And he started chuckling.

“I don’t think you really get a say in the matter.” He said.

“This totally f*****g sucks. You know that I hate those parties.” I said.

“I know. But I kind of need your help.” Asher said.

“How?” I was confused.

“You forced me to go to that meeting. Dad and the Beta were the only ones that tried to get me to leave.

The elders, they wanted me to stay. Because I had a right to. I need more help like that. To find ways of

showing my father that I can be an Alpha. Plus, everyone knows that a Luna makes an Alpha stronger.”

Asher said.

“So, you want me to come to dinner to find out what’s on the Alpha’s agenda?” I asked.

“I’ll find out what’s on the agenda. You help me fight for a seat in the room.” He said.

I looked up at him and I slowly nodded. Agreeing to come to dinner, but just to help him.

So he leaned down and he pressed his lips gently against mine.

When he pulled away he pressed his forehead against mine and let out a deep breath which I felt fan

across my face.

“You have no idea how much my wolf wants you right now.” Asher said.

“My wolf is going a little crazy too. But I’m not ready yet.” I admitted.

“You’ve never been with anyone, have you?” He asked.

“No. No guys at school could ever get close to me because they were scared of your brothers. And your brothers would scare them off. Saying they weren’t good enough for me.” I said.

“But they both have girlfriends. That wasn’t fair on you.” He said.

“I know. But at the time it just felt nice having someone protect me. And I didn’t really want to get involved with someone who might find out what my parents were doing.” I explained.

“I get that. I’m sorry I took off when I did. I should have stayed here and got you away from them sooner.”

He said.

“I don’t blame you. I know that I didn’t reject you properly. But I did say that I couldn’t be your mate. That was basically a rejection without actually going through the motions.” I said.

“I don’t care. I still should have stayed and fought for you.” He said.

“I am sorry about everything I did. I have to believe and tell myself that I was doing it for a good reason.” I

said.

“And you thought you were. There’s nothing wrong with that.” He said.

“I guess not.” I said.

We stayed on the couch with his arms around me for a while before I had to go and get ready for dinner. I

still hadn’t bought any new clothes and Asher looked like he was getting a little upset about that.

My clothes are all really old but I found the best looking ones that I could.

Asher waited for me downstairs and we walked to the packhouse together.

When we got there I started feeling really nervous and Asher picked up on it.

He let me catch my breath before we walked inside and we went straight to the dining room where there

were two seats waiting at the top of the table. The Alpha was sitting at the head of the table and the Luna

was on his right.

So Asher sat on the left of the Alpha and I sat on the other side of Asher, next to Gage.

Gage didn’t look at me but when I looked over the other side of the table I saw Arlo sitting there with his girlfriend Nicole.

Nicole was staring daggers at me, so she was obviously aware of everything that happened today. But she

might actually be more pissed off at the fact that I am going to be the future Luna of the pack.

I know that she’s always hated me. But now she really had a reason to hate me.

“So Trinny. We’re glad that you came to dinner tonight.” Luna Petra said.

“Of course. I don’t really know what to say about what happened today.” I said.

“You don’t have anything to say about that. It’s something that these boys need to sort out themselves.

You didn’t do anything wrong.” Alpha Dennis said.
