CHAPTER 6
I tried to take a step back from Asher, but he still had his arm around me from when he stopped
me from falling.
He was staring into my eyes. Not breaking eye contact at all. Looking at me menacingly and making me more and more uncomfortable and nervous the longer we were standing there.
He didn’t say anything else to me. He just stood there, standing tall staring down at me.
I tried to push away from him, but he wasn’t going to let that happen.
I knew that he hated me and a part of him wanted to hurt me, but I also knew that he wasn’t going
to hurt me. Not just yet anyway.

I start looking around frantically, remembering that I was fleeing my brother who was in the middle of attacking me when I hurt him. He was going to kill me if he caught up to me.
Asher reached his free hand up and moved a bit of hair out of my face, sparks flying across my
face and down my neck and arms.
My breath hitched as my heart was still pounding. But I didn’t know if that was from the attack, running or from being this close to Asher. And being able to smell his scent, having him touch me
and be so close to me.
Asher finally lightened his grip on me, but it was only a little bit.
I saw him sniffing the air around me, which caused him to tense up a bit but he finally looked down to see me wearing a singlet that showed a few bruises on my arms and he could smell the blood. on my feet and body plus my track pants were torn from the glass in the window.
I heard a guttural growl start to echo in his chest as he finally assessed me and the situation that I
was in.
Obviously, thinking that something really bad had just happened to me for me to be running. through the forest in the middle of the night looking like this.
But there’s no way he would ever imagine what was really going on. His family thought the world of my family. They didn’t think my parents or Spencer could do no wrong.
Asher just made Spencer his future Beta.
So that’s how much respect they have for my family.
“What happened to you?” He asked, his eyes still as black as the night.

“It’s nothing.” I said.
“Don’t lie to me.” He said, not moving his face away from mine.
He was so intense. So angry.
He’s definitely not the same Asher that I used to know. The one that I was friends with before he took off just after I turned 18.
Right after I found out that he was my mate.
Unfortunately, he had known since he was 18 that we were mates but he never said anything. because he wanted me to be able to be a kid. He’s 24, so that’s a big age gap.
And when I finally realized it when I turned 18, I didn’t react the way he wanted me to.
There’s a lot more to my life than he realizes and I couldn’t drag him into my drama. Especially not with him and Spencer being such good friends.
I didn’t reject him, so we are technically still mates. But I did tell him that I wasn’t the right mate for him. I refused to acknowledge that he was my mate, breaking his heart just as much. And he left
town.
I never meant to hurt him, but I know that he can do so much better than me. He doesn’t need
someone like me in his life, causing all this sort of drama.
Asher was still assessing the injuries on my body and they were all superficial but he moved his arm along the bruises on my arms. They were all different colors which means they were in different stages of healing.
They had been given to me at all different times, so I couldn’t say that I’d been in an accident or
anything like that.
He saw my split lip and I saw him lick his lips before he moved his finger across
in pain.

Just then I heard footsteps come running through the forest behind me and my heart started beating at a rapid pace again as I swung my head around to see Spencer coming through the trees towards us.
“Asher. I’m glad you found her.” Spencer said.
“What’s going on?” Asher asked, still not letting go of me.
“I told you earlier tonight, Trinity has problems. She just had another episode at home.” Spencer lied.

Asher looked back at me and I looked down at the ground. I couldn’t let him see that Spencer’s words not only hurt me but they angered me. There was nothing wrong with me.
That was just his way of excusing the marks on me if anyone ever sees them. My family can easily say that I did it to myself if they start letting people know that I’m troubled and I have serious

mental problems.
I felt Asher look back at me but I refused to look at him again. I kept looking down and I felt Spencer grab my arm and pull me away from Asher.
I actually felt more threatened now than I did with Asher.
“Why is she running through the forest in the middle of the night covered in cuts and bruises?”
Asher asked.
“Because she just had an episode at home. You should see the place. She broke a window and
trashed her room.” Spencer said.
Oh great. If he says that my room is trashed then he obviously did it before he got his clothes back on to come after me. Just another mess that I’m gonna have to clean up.
“Right, well. You better get the window fixed then. If she’s causing this much trouble you might
want to take her to see the doctor.” Asher said.
“That might be a good idea. My parents are having more and more trouble controlling her.” Spencer said.
But I could feel Asher’s hesitation and his stare that was still boring into my skull. But I refused to
look up.
Spencer stood there, looking at Asher but I couldn’t see what was going on. I was looking down and my hair was covering my face. I didn’t want to see what was going on but there was a chance that they were minding each other so I couldn’t hear what was going on.
I did notice Asher shifting uncomfortably on his feet and whenever Spencer tried to leave with me Asher would ask another question.
Asher was obviously uncomfortable about something, but I knew that he would never suspect my family of doing anything to me. They were loved by the Alpha family.
Asher was probably just trying to figure out why he never saw any of this behavior that Spencer is
saying.
I mean, I’m best friends with Asher’s little brothers and I spent a lot of time at their house. Asher used to hang around after he knew that we were mates and we were sitting around watching
movies.

I realized that it was just to be closer to me, which means he did see a bit of me when I was younger, up until a couple of months ago. And he never saw me acting strangely.
He was obviously trying to figure something out that didn’t seem to fit in his memory of things.
But Spencer managed to convince him and he dragged me home.
As soon as we walked in the front door of the house I saw my parents standing there, looking at
the broken window that I caused.
My father grabbed me by the wrist and he dragged me down the hallway and opened the door to
the basement.
He didn’t bother even coming down to the basement this time. H
