“No need, Grandma,” Maggie said. “I still have some work to deal with. I won’t stay for dinner.”
It wasn’t really work–she just didn’t want to linger here any longer.
Strictly speaking, since she and Franklin weren’t officially divorced yet, she was still part of the Wilson family. She didn’t need to keep her distance like this.
But in Maggie’s mind, ever since the divorce was on the table, she had already drawn a clear line with Franklin.
Old Mrs. Wilson understood this.
Seeing that Maggie was determined, she didn’t press further, only shot Franklin a fierce glare.
Franklin pretended not to see it. He looked at Maggie. “I’ll take you back.”
“No.” Maggie declined. “You’re busy. Let the driver take me.”
Franklin didn’t insist. “All right.”
Maggie returned upstairs for her bag and came down ready to leave.
Both Old Mrs. Wilson and Franklin walked her out.
Isabella only then realized Maggie was going. “Mommy, you’re leaving so soon?”
“Mm.” Maggie rubbed her hair. “Take care of yourself, don’t play too hard.”
“I know.” Isabella clung to her tightly. “School starts in a few days. Mommy, will you take me to school that day?”
Maggie hesitated, then nodded. “If I can, I will.”
At the car, Old Mrs. Wilson glanced at Franklin standing a little ways off, then quietly told Maggie, “Franklin was supposed to be at the office today, but he stayed to take care of you…”
And it had all been voluntary–Maggie hadn’t forced him.
Maggie lowered her eyes. “Grandma-”
“I know.” The old lady sighed, patting her hand. “I just can’t bear to see you go.”
If only she and Franklin could stay like this… how good that would be. It was her only regret.
After a few more reminders, Old Mrs. Wilson let her go.
Maggie’s excuse about work wasn’t entirely false,
The Wilson Group–Cole collaboration was mostly in her hands, and she had fallen behind while sick. Tomorrow she had to lead a major meeting at Cole.
Back at the Miller residence, after half an hour of rest, she opened her laptop.
Just as she did, her phone buzzed,
It was Franklin.
She hesitated before opening the message.
It was a document.
She frowned, opened it–and fell silent.
It was the very task she was about to do. And Franklin had already done it.
Perfectly aligned with her own ideas.

Chapter 419
Her hands hovered on the keyboard for a long time before she finally replied: Thank you.
His answer came quickly: [Mm.]
She didn’t reply again. Closing the laptop, she leaned back in her chair. Franklin didn’t message again either.
The next morning, back at Cole, she forwarded the file to Johnny.
He skimmed it, then frowned. “You just recovered, and you pulled another all–nighter?”
Maggie paused. “The later part wasn’t mine.”
“…Franklin’s?”
“Mm.”
Johnny: “…”
“The sun must’ve risen in the west.”
“Maybe,” Maggie said.
