At noon. Julia went to Wilson Group, ready to accompany Franklin to a meeting with one of Wilson Tech’s partners.
When she arrived, Franklin was still in a meeting. He had already attended three back–to–back sessions that morning. Julia waited a while before he finally
finished.
Seeing her back in his office, Franklin gave a small nod. “You’re here.”
Julia smiled lightly. “Mm.”
“I still have a few things to handle. We’ll have to wait a bit before leaving.”
“No problem. Go ahead,” Julia said.
As Franklin dealt with some documents, Chad stood by, reporting his schedule.
Ive already spoken to Mr. Kate this morning,” Franklin said. “I’ll delay my trip to France by two days.”
“Understood,” Chad replied, asking no further questions as he continued with the report.
But Julia’s lashes trembled slightly at this.
Three nights from now was Cole’s anniversary celebration.
If Franklin delayed France, then he would certainly attend Cole’s gala.
When Cole’s invitation had first arrived, Julia had agreed to accompany him–only because she feared that refusing would raise suspicion. In the past,
whenever Franklin asked her to attend an event, she almost always accepted.
Her real plan had been to feign an excuse when the day came. She had even felt relieved when she first heard Franklin had a business trip to France at the
same time.
But now-
With only two or three days left before the anniversary, Franklin’s grasp of Wilson Tech’s matters meant she couldn’t easily fabricate an excuse to avoid going.
ulia frowned. Then suddenly, a thought struck her.
Had Franklin delayed France specifically to attend Cole’s anniversary?
Her gaze shifted to him. He was absorbed in his documents, seemingly unaware of her stare.
After a long silence, she couldn’t hold back. “Franklin, did you postpone France… because you intend to attend Cole’s gala?”
Franklin paused, looked up at her. “Yes,”
Julia forced a smile. “Why didn’t you mention it before?”
France was supposed to be important–at least as important as Wilson Group’s collaboration with Cole. Attending Cole’s gala hardly seemed urgent. Even if Franklin skipped, Johnny and Maggie would hardly object. France, however…
Yet Franklin only smiled faintly, lowering his head back to the papers. “Things in France are well in hand. It’s fine to go later.”
Was it really that simple? Julia wondered.
But she didn’t ask again.
After finishing his paperwork, Franklin stood. “All right, let’s go.”
