Chapter 442
When Jimmy saw her, he didn’t look surprised. He simply nodded with polite ease. “Miss Brown.”
“Long time no see. I didn’t expect to run into you here,” Julia said. Glancing at the items in his hands, she smiled and extended a gracious invitation. “Mr. Hall, did you come with Mr. Hardin and Mr. Jolly? I’m here with some friends as well. Since we all know each other, would you like to join us? More people, more fun.”
“Rex isn’t here,” Jimmy replied. “I came with other friends.”
Then, courteously:“They’re waiting for me. I’ll get going–let’s talk next time.”
Polite and well–mannered as it was, his answer–given that she’d invited him and he hadn’t invited her back–was a refusal in all but name.
Julia understood and kept her poised smile. “All right. Enjoy your evening.”
“You too.”
After the exchange of pleasantries, Jimmy inclined his head and walked away.
“Sis, wasn’t that Mr. Hall? He’s camping too? Then Rex must be here, right? We’re short on people–why don’t we ask them to join?”
Sophia came over with two girlfriends in tow.
They did have male friends along this trip, but only Levi counted as eye candy–and he barely hung out with them. If Jimmy and Rex joined, the night would be much livelier.

Julia’s tone was cool. “He came with other friends. Not convenient.”
“Oh…okay.”
Disappointment flickered across their faces.
Watching Jimmy’s retreating figure, one friend sighed. “Mr. Hall is still so handsome. I heard he’s been in the service and still single. I wonder what kind of girl could match him.”
Another added, “With his background, ordinary girls won’t even register. We should stop daydreaming.”
Sophia knew they were right.
Still–when a man like that appeared in front of you, who wouldn’t fantasize a little?
She knew there was no future with Harry.
As for Jimmy…
The more she thought, the more her mood wilted.
Sophia and her friends soon drifted off. Julia, already out of sorts, didn’t follow.
Just then, she saw Glen coming up from the parking area with a cooler from the car.
He saw her too–paused, gave a brief nod, and started to move past.
Julia hadn’t expected him to be here as well. As he was about to go, she said, “Stay and talk for a bit?”
Glen could tell she was in a bad mood. He didn’t know why–maybe a fight with Franklin, maybe something else. Either way, it wasn’t his concern

anymore.
Without turning back, he said politely. “Sorry, I’ve got things to do,” and left, no further comment.
Julia watched his cool indifference and assumed he was still angry. She thought nothing more of it.
Glen, for his part, really had let Julia go. He still remembered the Browns‘ past help, though.
After dropping the ingredients, he texted his sister, then stopped paying attention and headed straight toward Maggie.
