Chapter 455
Janice averted her eyes and offered a faint smile.
“Something along those lines,” she replied softly.
They lingered for a few more moments, exchanging casual words with their friend. Once the farewell was said, they turned away and slipped into the car.
Settling into their seats, both Janice and Old Mrs. Brown exchanged glances, a mutual recognition dawning that perhaps they had let their imaginations run wild earlier.
Watching Maggie and Franklin interact so cordially had led them to suspect there was more beneath the surface—maybe even a rekindled romance. They had even entertained the thought that Franklin Rad’s delay in finalizing the divorce might be connected to this newfound closeness.
But now, with the child between Maggie and Franklin growing older, it made perfect sense that Franklin would behave politely around Maggie, out of respect for their daughter’s well-being.
Reflecting on their earlier assumptions, Janice felt they might have blown things out of proportion, reading too deeply into Franklin’s considerate demeanor.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town…
After leaving the restaurant, Franklin took charge, driving Maggie and Isabella to a secluded estate renowned for its bountiful fruit orchards and autumn harvest.
Franklin had thoughtfully called ahead, and as their car pulled up, a few staff members promptly came out to welcome them.
“Mr. Wilson, Miss Isabella,” one greeted warmly.
After acknowledging Franklin and Isabella, one of the attendants’s eyes flickered with curiosity upon seeing Maggie. “And this young lady is?” she inquired politely.
It was evident that Franklin and Isabella were familiar visitors here.
Before Maggie could respond, Isabella’s enthusiasm bubbled over as she grabbed her mother’s hand excitedly.
“Mom, the peaches and pomegranates here are enormous and incredibly sweet! Dad said they have rare varieties you won’t find in stores. You’re going to love them. Can we pick the pomegranates first, please?”
Maggie smiled and nodded. “Sure, let’s start there.”
Maggie watched quietly, recalling how often Franklin and Isabella had visited this place before. She turned her gaze away, a mixture of nostalgia and subtle sadness washing over her.
Once the fruit was prepared, Franklin passed a bowl filled with the glistening pomegranate seeds to Maggie and Isabella.
“Thank you,” Maggie accepted the bowl politely.
The fruit’s taste was far richer and more fragrant than any pomegranates she had purchased from the market—likely a testament to the estate’s careful cultivation.
Isabella then led Maggie on another tour around the orchard, picking various fruits along the way.
Maggie noticed how much better everything tasted here compared to what she usually bought. As she pondered whether they could bring some home, Franklin caught her glance and smiled.
“You can take some with you,” he said kindly.
A warm sense of gratitude filled Maggie’s heart as they continued their peaceful harvest, the quiet estate offering a rare moment of calm and connection.
