Freedom 457
Chapter 457
“Yes,” Maggie replied softly. “Where is Isabella now?”
“She went downstairs to play,” Franklin answered as he rose from his seat. “Since you’re finally awake, shall we head down and start making the wine?”
The process of making wine was intricate and required patience and careful attention.
If they had truly been just an ordinary family of three, this would have been a special and enjoyable bonding experience.
But between Maggie and Franklin, things were never quite that simple.
Maggie wanted to suggest that they didn’t have to make the wine after all.
Before she could voice her hesitation, Franklin added, “Isabella’s waiting for us downstairs. Let’s not keep her waiting too long.”
Maggie paused briefly but remained silent.
When they reached the ground floor, Isabella spotted them immediately and ran over, throwing her arms around Maggie’s waist. “Mom, you’re finally awake! I already learned everything about making wine. Let’s start now!”
Maggie was left momentarily speechless.
Earlier, before their afternoon rest, they had picked the grapes together.
The grapes had been carefully washed and set aside to dry before they could be used.
They had gathered quite a large amount, so the estate manager asked them which containers they preferred for the wine.
There were jars of various sizes laid out.
Franklin glanced at Maggie, silently asking her to choose.
“Let’s divide the grapes into two jars,” Maggie suggested.
That way, each of them could take one jar home later.
Rex had met Isabella before and knew she was Franklin’s daughter.
Seeing her face, which bore such a strong resemblance to Franklin’s, he smiled softly. “Hello.”
Franklin didn’t linger. “We’ll head back for now. Maybe we can have a drink later?”
Rex wanted to ask if Julia was with them. He had hoped for another chance to see her, even if only to exchange a few words.
But since she was involved with someone else, he held back.
So when Franklin extended the invitation, Rex simply replied, “Sure.”
Franklin said no more and left with Isabella to rejoin Maggie.
Rex watched them walk away, about to look elsewhere—when suddenly he saw Isabella sprint toward a slender figure in the distance.
The moment he recognized that familiar silhouette, he froze in place.
