This was David’s bonus gift to me. He said the real thank–you gift would be given when I decided what I wanted.
Because of my reminder, he checked Emma’s accounts and discovered that Emma had been secretly using his credit cards to withdraw cash. Over the past three years, she had taken about $50 million in cash.
This far exceeded the alimony they had agreed upon during their divorce.
With this, Emma lost her biggest support. Of course, this wasn’t the end of it.
When she tries to perch on the next tree, that’s when she’ll be the most unfortunate. She just doesn’t know it yet.
When David stopped her allowance and demanded repayment for some of the losses, Emma panicked a bit.
Although my aunt’s family is well–off, they’re just middle class.
But over the years, with Emma’s constant supplementation, everyone in the family’s appetite had grown.
When she was in a tight spot, it happened to be the Mid–Autumn Festival.
In previous years, Emma would buy lots of gifts and send them around. It seemed like this was the only way she could outshine the other younger generation and stand out.
This year, even by evening, she hadn’t shown any sign of gift–giving. People in the family group chat were already making unpleasant
comments.
At midnight, she finally posted in the group, “I’m out of town. I’ll make up for the festival gifts in a couple of days!”
I don’t know if she was really out of town, but Jack was at my doorstep.
When he came in, he first apologized profusely, saying he had been too busy lately and had neglected me. He asked why I wasn’t responding to him.

I stared at him for a long time, feeling that even though we had been dating for half a year, he was still very much a stranger.
He felt uncomfortable under my gaze. After a while, he probably realized that I knew something.
He asked if there was no chance left for us.
I took out my phone and showed him the photos. He immediately fell silent.
“Actually, you don’t love me anymore. Why did you come to find me? We could have just broken up directly.”
He said, “I guess I’m a bit unwilling to let go. I think I do like you, but I seem to find it hard to resist Emma’s attraction.”
“So you’re trying to have a relationship with two sisters at the same time?”
