After the police finished writing the ticket, Lionel tried to approach Hannah again.
“Officers, look at him! He hasn’t learned his lesson!” Samuel shouted from the car. “He deliberately cut us off just to harass my sister, and now he’s trying it again right in front of you! This is unbelievable!”
The police officers immediately stepped between them.
“We know each other. I just need to talk to her about something important,” Lionel said, feeling a sense of helplessness he had never experienced before.
“Sorry, we don’t know him,” Hannah called out. “We have no relationship whatsoever. We’re in a hurry to get back to work. Officers, could you please keep him away from us?”
With that, she got back in the car.
Samuel didn’t hesitate, immediately pulling away and leaving Lionel behind. Even after they were gone, the police, still concerned, warned Lionel again not to engage in such dangerous behavior.
They had recognized him as Mr. Rosenberg from the start and were baffled as to why the CEO of the Rosenberg family would do something like this, though it wasn't their place to ask.
However, some passersby had also recognized him and had already filmed the incident, posting videos and photos online without knowing the full context.
Lionel couldn’t believe that things between him and Hannah had escalated to involving the police, nor could he fathom how she could be so utterly ruthless.
He returned to his car and pinched the bridge of his nose, pulling the USB drive from his pocket.
It looked identical to the one before. Did Hannah know the first one was corrupted and send a replacement?
No, if that were the case, why involve a stranger? And why that particular woman, the one Sandra had sent to destroy the footage in the first place?
A tangled web of questions, all pointing back to this small USB drive. Lionel put it back in his pocket and drove to his office.
Owen was out handling another matter, so he plugged the drive into his computer himself.
As the surveillance footage played on the screen, his face grew darker and darker.
Quennel shot him a cold glance and walked past him toward the door.
“I came to warn her not to bully Hannah anymore,” he said, then turned back to give Sandra a final, meaningful look before leaving.
Lionel didn't press the issue further.
“Lionel!” As soon as Quennel was gone, Sandra let out a shaky breath.
“Quick, you have to get me out of here. I’m scared!”
“Alright,” he said, his eyes fixed on her reddened, tear-filled eyes.
“Sandra, tell me the truth. What exactly happened that night? Why did Mr. Cooper beat you? Why did Hannah just stand by and watch?”
Sandra’s heart skipped a beat, her lips trembling. “Lionel,” she whispered, her voice cracking. “Are you accusing me of lying?”
