“You say I incited you, but do you have any proof? And what exactly did I incite you to do?” Hannah asked calmly.
James stammered but couldn't get a single word out.
Samuel, sitting nearby, rolled his eyes dramatically. “Don’t tell me you’re trying to say Hannah encouraged you to spread rumors about her in the company,” he sneered. “Like that story you started about her sleeping with the boss. Why don’t you explain why she would do that? What does she gain from destroying her own reputation?”
Hannah leaned back on the sofa, crossing her arms. A cold, mocking smile played on her lips.
“Or maybe you think I have a grudge against your boss,” she said with a chilling laugh. “That I’m willing to sacrifice my own reputation just to bring him down.”
The two of them worked in perfect tandem, leaving him utterly speechless.
After fuming for a moment, he pointed at them hysterically and roared, “I—I don’t know! All I know is you incited me! You told me to tell our colleagues that!”
“How should I know what your goal was? I was just helping you! Boss, it must be her! She wanted to harm you, that’s why she told me to spread those rumors.”
Hearing his idiotic defense, Hannah continued, “If I really did tell you to do this to harm your boss, you need to provide evidence. Prove that I instructed you. When and where did I say these things to you? Show me the proof.”
“Besides, I only met your boss for the first time today. We’ve never crossed paths before. I have no reason to hold a grudge against him. Why would I want to harm him? Your story makes no sense. It’s full of contradictions, you see?”
