Chapter 10
“Bang!‘
:
The gunshot echoes loudly across the fight den, and a hush instantly falls over the den.
The ongoing fight in the ring has been paused and all eyes are on me.
Meanwhile, I’m sat, gun outstretched, with a trail of smoke rising from it.

Everything that follows happens in a slow motion, like some otherworldly being has reduced the playback speed.
First, Marcus’s wide grin slowly converts to a look of surprise, and then alarm, probably at sighting the gun. In the next second, his eyes move to his thigh where a dark red liquid spreads across the expensive material of his suit. And then, they move down to the blood pooling steadily at his feet.
His eyes grow wide, followed closely by a howl of pain that echoes across the den. Marcus drops to the ground, clutching the wound with cries of pain as blood spills through his hands.
What’s even more amusing is how Marcus’s subordinates only now realise that their Alpha has been hit. They probably thought I wouldn’t dare fire the gun.
Thorneville seems to have forgotten about Kael Blackwood. I intend to remind them.
Only now does the world return to normal. Marcus’s subordinates snarl furiously, lunging at me, eyes gleaming with rage and vengeance.
But Blake and Caleb are faster, taking both pack wolves down in a few moves. I pick up my drink, taking a slow sip as I watch Marcus curl up, screaming like a new born.
“You bastard!!!! How dare you shoot me?!!! This is war!!!”
He’d obviously never taken a hit before, living a life of luxury. Once, I might have been just like him. A sheltered Alpha with no knowledge of just how cruel the world is.
But I’m not that Blackwood Heir anymore. There’s nothing Kael Blackwood doesn’t dare do.
I chuckle quietly to myself. “War? Blackwood Pack and Blue Howl Pack have been at war for as long as I
remember What else is new?”
Karl Blackwood, you fucker! I won’t let you get away with this! Shit!” Marcus cursed, shaking in rage.
‘Do I look like I need you to let me off?” I ask, glancing around my fight den “Blackwood Pack may have reasons to keep the peace, but me? I have no trouble wiping out your pack and taking over all your
businesses
“A pack without an Alpha I murmur, tapping the gun against my chin. It’s up for the taking, yeah?”
I slowly rise to my feet, stalking Marcus. His eyes grow wide in alarm. ‘Don’t come closer! Shit! My father will

I scoff beneath my breath, “You’re not the first Alpha I’ve shot, Marcus. And I’ve gotten away with it just fine” Stepping over the pool of blood, I crouch beside him. “Did your father not teach you, to respect women?”
His eyes widen as I press the gun into the side of his face. “If so, let me make this clear. If you ever in your miserable existence mention my woman again, you die. If you think of her, you die. If you see her or walk down the same street as she does, you die.”
“Do you understand me, Marcus?” I hiss lowly.
Marcus nods slowly, his lips pursed to contain his rage. Not that I give a damn. I didn’t return to make peace.
“Good boy.” I rise to my feet, putting the gun back into its holster.
“You’ve crossed into my territory quite a few times too, Marcus. And you must have thought you get away with it. But I’m back now…” I turn to face him. “And you see, I do not believe in dialogue or negotiation. If your wolfs cross the line again, I’ll make sure you never find their bodies.”

“Are we clear?” I ask.
Marcus doesn’t respond.
“Words Marcus.” My tone leaves no room for arguments.
“I get it, alright?!” Marcus hisses in pain as his movement jerks at his injury.
I shrug casually. “That’s left to be seen. And I hope you do try me…so I can send you on your way.”
I head over to my table, grabbing my drink, I down the last of it. Blake places a briefcase on the table, opening it up to reveal rows of dollar bills.
I grab a few bundles and toss it at Marcus. “I hear surgeries are expensive these days.”
Adjusting my jacket, I stride past him, pausing a few steps away. “By the way Marc, it’s nice to see a familiar face again?
I don’t wait to hear his response, and I don’t care to pay attention to the dozens of eyes fixed on me. They’d all signed an NDA before getting into my fight den.
Whatever happens in the den stays in the den. This is the ultimate rule. Anyone who breaks it will have more than just me to contend with
After all, too many Alphas have done things in this fight den that would damn them if it sees the light of day. If someone begins tattling, they would be making enemies out of all those Alphas
And every rogue here works for me.
As for Marcus, he’s a regular at Cascade and he’s also bound by the NDA. He knows the laws as well as everyone else. He’ll have to find some other explanation for why he has a gunshot wound to the thigh.

Stepping out of the den, we get into the elevator. When we finally step out of Cascade, I exhale a slow breath, glancing up at the sky.
“So…do we have to add “Do not mention Laila Blackwood, to den rules?” Blake asks casually, coming to stand beside me while the varlet brings the car around.
I throw him a dirty look and he raises both hands in a gesture of surrender. “No more gunshots today.”
He gets the door and shuts it after I get in, going around to get into the driver’s side, he pulls out into the highway.
“Any luck getting it out of your system?” He asks, glancing at me through the rearview mirror.
I sink into the leather, inhaling deeply.
It still smells of Laila… she just won’t let me off, will she?
