The chilly night air brushes against my cheeks as I step out of Cascade.

It does nothing to quell the anger burning through my veins. It doesn’t wash away the feeling of disgust

either.

All it had taken was a few minutes. I’d only gone back in to grab my coat. And Kael is already ramming his dick into another woman.

It’s me he desires? He doesn’t want anyone else?

I scoff beneath my breath, the absurdity of it finally dawning.

It’s never been about me at all. It’s always been about taking what once belonged to Cameron.

And the moment he had a taste, he’s gone right back to being the Kael Blackwood I know.

A cold, ruthless man.

My heart doesn’t even ache and the regrets I initially felt have all but disappeared. Now, I just feel numb.

Laila!Blake calls, jogging over to me from the back entrance.

I turn to him, my stare frosty. His eyes are guilty and he winces visibly at the chill in my eyes.

It’s my faultBlake explains quickly, You left. And I thoughtI thought it was okay to let her in.

I cut him off. She would only go there if Kael called her.

How is it your fault that he can’t keep it in his pants for two minutes? My voice is cold and emotionless.

Look, the drugsBlake tries again but I shake my head.

I’m done hearing about him being drugged and helpless. He was sober enough to make a fool out of me.

Save it. He’s not my problem anymore.” I don’t wait to hear anything else.

Pulling open the car door, I get in. Take me home, please.I say to Greg.

He quietly backs the car into the road. I lean against the window. The glass is cold, but not nearly as cold as my heart feels.

The image of Kael balls deep in her, and her delighted moans keep surfacing in my mind no matter how

much I shake it off.

I can’t even be mad at him. I’d been the one to tell him to bring in another woman. I just didn’t think he actually would, just a few minutes after I left.

Our marriage is a sham. He owes me no loyalties. Even Cameron who did owe me loyalties had no qualms making love to another woman for three years, in our home, outside our homeand he was the good brother.

Kaelthe actual black sheep of the Blackwoods, I should have known to expect the worse.

There’s no way a man like Kael with a roaster of women fawning over him both in Ridgeway and here in Thorneville,

He wouldn’t actually withhold his urges because of me. It was foolish of me to even entertain the thought that he had.

Prim and properI murmur, He’s right. I don’t suit his tastesI never will.

From now on, I’ll stick to just being his dutiful wife. It’s just for a month longer, after all.”

The sun rays streak in through the window blinds, rousing me from a fitful sleep.

The events from last night surfaced in my mind almost instantly. Kael didn’t return home. And I didn’t expect

him to.

If he comes in this morning or not also doesn’t matter. He’s probably still in bed with her.

My heart aches slightly at the thought. But not for me, for Liam. He always sulks when Kael doesn’t make it in time for breakfast, especially after he missed dinner last night.

I exhale slowly, once again questioning if I’d made the right decision letting Liam believe Kael is his father.

I did what I had to do to keep my son. Kael would have outed my pregnancy to the Blackwoods otherwise and a divorced woman won’t be allowed to raise a Blackwood child.

The thought of Sarah raising my son was far too painful to bear, I’d signed Kael’s contract without thinking twice.

But now, the end of our contract is getting closer

What am I going to do about Liam?

I shake off the depressing thoughts, getting off my bed. I freshen up quickly before heading out of my room

to check in on Liam.

He’s still sound asleep. He had a tiring day being out with Grandfather Blackwood, but it’s a good thing he doesn’t have to go to the kindergarten today.

Good morning, Mrs Blackwood.Marie is already by the kitchen island making coffee.

I inhale deeply, the scent of freshly made coffee always brightens my day.

Laila.I correct, If I have to say it a hundred more times, I might as well paste a notice on the walls.

Marie giggles quietly, shooting me an apologetic look over her shoulders.

No sweeteners. Just the way you like it.She says, placing a mug of coffee down on my table.

I raise a brow. I’m not sure how Marie knows my preferences. We’ve only been here a few days and I’ve been up early enough to make my own coffee each time,

I slept in longer todayfor obvious reasons.

How did you figure?I ask, warming my hands with the heat radiating from the steaming mug.

Oh, Mr Blackwood told me.She replies without glancing over.

Mr Blackwoodas in Kael?

Kael’shome?I ask her uncertainly.

I didn’t hear him come in before drifting off.

Yes.Marie confirmed, He came in a little after dawn.”

To think he did come back last night.

I’m not sure what to do with that information, but it doesn’t really change anything.

Will you have breakfast together? She asks, still busily cutting up fruits for a fruit bowl.

It’s then I notice Kael. He’s standing by the door, running a hand through his already messy hair.

I didn’t hear him coming. I must have been too lost in my thoughts to notice him.

The anger from last night is gone. All that’s left is disgust.

No.I reply curtly, Just Liam.

I don’t say anything to him. I just brush past, heading up to my room.
