Cameron doesn’t get to respond before a doctor walks into the room. It looks like he has more to say and he’s visibly displeased about the new company.
But I’m grateful for the interruption. I’m not sure I want to hear whatever else he has to say about the situation.
It’s already clear whose side he’s on. Hell, it’s been more than clear since three years ago.
I had literally taken the fall for Sarah, and yet she was able to weasel her way out of the responsibility while I was still unconscious.
And here he is, offering an apology Sarah doesn’t have the decency to give herself.
I have to give it to her. Sarah knows exactly how to get her way, and she never fails to put it to use.
And seeing Cameron fall for it again, the nostalgia fades by a measure. He’s still just the same man he used to be.
“Good evening, Ms Laila.” The doctor greets, checking my vitals. “How are you feeling at the moment?”
I ponder over it for a moment, finally paying less attention to Cameron and more attention to my
My right arm is wrapped up in a cast. And I can feel a slightly aching bump on the back of my skull.
“Like I fell.” I reply finally, earning an amused chuckle from the doctor.
“That you did, Ms Laila.” He agrees, “That you did.”
“But overall? Any pains? Discomfort?” He asks.
“Don’t joke about this, Lails.” Cameron reprimands, frowning in displeasure.
I shoot him a withering glare. He’s not in any position to comment on what I do or don’t do.
Brushing the thought aside, I shake my head slowly. “I just feel like I need a good sleep.”
condition.
The doctor nods in understanding. “Mr Blackwood?” He asks Cameron, as he notes some things down on the board.
Cameron nods. “Yes, I am.”
“You must be Ms Laila’s guardian.” The doctor infers. “Her husband?”
“I am.” Cameron replies instinctively.
Realising his mistake, he quickly says, “No, I mean…”

Chapter 48
“No.” I cut in, my tone flat. “He’s not.”
The doctor glances between me and Cameron in confusion.

Just then, Kael appears in the doorway. My eyes find him immediately and I exhale a breath of relief I didn’t even realise I was holding.
The atmosphere between Cameron and I has gone from tender and wistful to awkward now and I can’t wait for it to be over.
“That would be me.” Kael says as he walks in. His strides are calm, and relaxed, like he owns the place.
Everything Kael does exudes a quiet dominance. It’s as consistent as the blood flowing through his veins.
However, his hands are tucked into his pockets and I can tell they’re clenched. Kael is good at hiding his true emotions, from everyone…even himself sometimes.
But somehow, I can see beneath the facade enough to know he’s agitated.
I can’t help wondering if he’s angry at me for finding Cameron and I alone together again. Or just at the overall situation.
He stops on the other side of my bed, opposite where Cameron still sits and leans down, placing a kiss on my forehead.
The doctor glances at me for confirmation and I nod slowly. “Yes. He’s my husband.”
The doctor nods in understanding. “I’ve been told, Mr Blackwood already made the arrangements for your discharge.”
So Kael didn’t just arrive. He’s been here all along. If so, why did I wake up to Cameron with me? Did Kael step away? Or just stood and watched to see if I did something to embarrass him?
Nothing with Kael is ever simple.
“The fall wasn’t too high, thankfully. You fractured an arm, sprained your ankle and suffered a minor concussion, but no other major injuries to note.”
“Seeing as you are from a pure Alpha bloodline, your healing genes are better than most. So there’s not much you need us to do for you.” He explains, nodding in approval.
“We’ve had you on stimulants to boost your natural healing speed and for the next 24 hours, your healing will be accelerated.”
“You should be fully recovered in two days.”
I force a smile to my lips. “Thank you.”
The doctor smiles and nods to Kael. “I’ll have someone come in to prepare her, and then you can take her
home,”

Chapter 18
“I’ll see you back at the house” Cameron hesitates for a moment, glancing between me and Kal
His brows furrow, displeasure flashing through his eyes. Then he gets up to his feet and takes his lense,
Everyone’s gone. Kael and I are alone in the hospital room, and we fall into silence,
This time, it’s not awkward. It’s something darker… something oppressive.
I can practically feel Kael’s anger brewing beneath the surface, it makes the hospital room feel like it’s growing
smaller.
Too small to contain us both.
He’s leaning against the wall, watching me with an unreadable expression. And then, just when I think he won’t speak, he says, “I didn’t bring flowers. Or a card”
“I made a call. Outside the hospital.”
“Sarah has some properties worth quite a reasonable sum to her name… she also has her life, which must be valuable to she and whoever else cares.”
“She’ll have just one of both left by the morning. You don’t get to decide which”
My eyes widen in disbelief, a measure of dread churning within me. “You’re kidding…
Kael just stares back at me with a blank expression. His lips are pressed into a thin line and there isn’t even an ounce of amusement in his eyes. Rather, there’s a dark rage simmering in his gaze. I already made it known 1 favoured the latter.”
He’s not kidding.
