My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1020

“Mr. Austin. Mrs. Austin.”

Emily’s voice was steady as she called out from behind them.

Emma’s eyes were rimmed red as she looked back. At last, Emily stepped forward, moving away from Isabella’s parents to stand at Emma’s side.

Mrs. Austin let out a cold laugh. “So, you finally decided to stop hiding?”

Emily’s smile was calm. “Hiding? I think you’ve got the wrong person, Mrs. Austin. If we’re talking about hiding, I’m nothing compared to Isabella.”

Mrs. Austin’s eyes narrowed and her lips pressed into a thin line.

Emily’s words carried a sharp edge. “Not every pianist has to rely on a ghostwriter. When someone can’t compose anything decent, they just pay someone else to do it, right? The rest of us compete honestly, but I guess we’re just not in Isabella’s league.”

The color drained from Mrs. Austin’s face. “Emily Blair, I dare you to say that again.”

“You want to hear me say it twice?” Emily arched her brows. “Maybe you’re not as protective of Isabella as you pretend. Or maybe you just don’t care about shame at all.”

Mr. Austin glared at Emily, his voice low and tight. “Do you even know what you’re talking about?”

Emily’s tone stayed light. “My mind is just fine, thanks for asking. I’m more curious about yours, to be honest. One of you wants me to repeat myself, and the other acts like they don’t even get it.” She gave a little smirk. “Maybe you should both get checked out, just to be safe.”

Mrs. Austin’s voice rose, sharp with anger. “Emily Blair, are you out of your mind?”
