My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1056

Back then, it only took a few words from him to make Emily Blair glare at him, her eyes blazing with anger. Honestly, he would have preferred to see her looking at him with softness and affection, but the truth was, her anger always got his heart racing, made him feel a thrill he couldn't quite explain.

Now, though, when Emily brought up the diamond ring, her face showed nothing. No expression, no hint of emotion in her eyes. She talked about it like it was just some ordinary thing, something that didn’t matter, something not worth a second thought.

Andrew Lane’s smile slowly faded.

At lunch, she hadn’t been like this. What happened between then and now? How could things change so fast?

He searched her eyes, hoping for some clue, anything to help him understand. But Emily didn’t give him the chance. She lowered her gaze, put the patient file back in place, and said, “The IV will be done soon. I’ll wait for you outside.”

Andrew watched her, then just nodded.

Emily left with Elizabeth Wilson by her side.

As soon as they stepped out, Elizabeth started laughing. She nudged Emily’s shoulder. “You did great in there.”

Emily brushed her off and the two of them sat down on a bench in the hospital hallway.

Thinking back on it, Emily let out a breath. “You were right. I definitely overreacted to Andrew Lane.”

Elizabeth smiled, her eyes lighting up. “Just take it slow. You’ve known Andrew forever, and you’ve lived together for ages. It’s normal to still have feelings pop up. You’ll learn to let go, little by little.”

Emily nodded.

Elizabeth’s smile turned playful. “I kept an eye on Andrew’s face the whole time. He looked like he was really struggling.”

Emily lifted her chin, staring up at the harsh white lights overhead. “That’s not my problem.”

Elizabeth grinned. “Exactly. Don’t let Andrew get too smug. Anyway, I’ve got somewhere to be. You’re okay hanging out with him by yourself, right?”

Emily shook her head, a small smile tugging at her lips. “I’ll be fine.”
