My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1109

Tristan still looked pale, his breaths coming fast and shallow. When he felt Emily trying to pull away, he just held on tighter. “Don’t go. Stay here with me.”

Emily stopped struggling and looked at him, searching his face. “When did you wake up?”

She sounded calm, her expression unreadable, but Tristan wasn’t about to relax. He stepped closer, his voice gentle. “Just now. Come back with me. You promised you’d stay with me at the hospital.”

Emily hesitated. She didn’t say yes, just asked quietly, “Are they still there?”

Tristan squeezed her hand, his voice dropping, almost pleading. “Come back with me. I won’t let them give you a hard time again.”

Emily was silent for a moment before she spoke. “Your grandfather’s there. Cynthia and her family, too. If I go back, it’ll just be awkward for everyone.”

She met his eyes, steady and honest. “It’ll be awkward for you, too.”

“It won’t,” Tristan said quickly. “I promise I’ll handle it. I’ll talk to my grandfather and the Riveras. Just don’t go.”

Emily went quiet again, glancing down at his hand still holding hers.

Then her eyes caught on something. She took his hand in hers, turning it over. On his pale skin, the thin red gash where the IV needle had been stood out, a smear of fresh blood seeping from the spot.

“You—” Emily clutched his hand, suddenly remembering that when she’d left, his IV bag had still been half full.

He had pulled out the needle himself just to chase after her.

She glared at him. “What were you thinking?”
