After Tristan found Emily and brought her back, he looked like he was in the best mood ever. The nurse tried to scold him, but he just nodded along with a lazy smile, acting like he hadn’t heard a single word. That only made the nurse more annoyed, and she walked out in a huff.
Emily glared at him, clearly not impressed, but Tristan only grinned and gave her hand a playful squeeze.
Steven Davis watched the whole thing with a heavy sigh. He turned to Tristan and said, “This time, I messed up. I shouldn’t have kept things from you or pushed you to get engaged to Cynthia. I’ll talk to the Rivera family myself. And about the drugging, I found out it was your assistant. She’s already been sent to the police. You don’t have to worry about anything else. Just focus on getting better.”
Tristan let out a light laugh. “Alright, I get it.”
He paused, then added, “But it can’t just be the Rivera family who knows. Everyone who was at that party tonight should hear that Cynthia and I aren’t together. I don’t want anyone thinking I’m playing both sides. That would be so unfair to me.”
Steven’s voice was serious. “You left the party so suddenly. Anyone paying attention could see how you really feel.”
Tristan just smiled. “You never know. People love to jump to conclusions.”
Then he tugged Emily’s hand closer and waved it in front of his grandfather. “Actually, this is a good time to mention it. Emily Blair, my girlfriend.”
Emily froze. The sudden “meet the family” moment completely caught her off guard, and for a second she didn’t know what to do or say.
Steven’s face was far from welcoming.
Tristan didn’t care. “Unless something totally unexpected happens, Emily’s the only person I want to be engaged to or marry. So, Grandpa, you don’t need to worry about setting me up anymore. I’ll handle my own love life from now on. You might as well start thinking of Emily as your future granddaughter-in-law.”
Steven’s eyes, tired and clouded with age, just stared at him. He kept silent.
Tristan stared right back, just as stubborn, clearly hoping for some sign of approval. Neither of them was willing to back down.
Emily could guess what was going on between them. She quietly sighed and squeezed Tristan’s hand. “Come on, you’re still getting an IV. You should rest. Why get into all this now?”
